Picture this, you are in a dark cave and only one torch, a spark torch which you can hold and light your path. Minecraft has lots of wood but I feel we can have some special types such as walnut wood, walnut trees would have walnut which can be eaten and the bark will occasionally have sap on them called sappy walnut logs. And here’s the idea, smelting a sappy walnut log and then replacing the fuel with glass bottles will yield two things, a bottle of pitch (which will have dripped down from the log into the bottle) and charcoal. With this fun new liquid, you can repair wooden tools, bows and shields (pitch is used for such in real life) but you can also make spark torches, the recipe for which is paper, a stick and a bottle of pitch, this crafts the spark torch leaving the bottle. Spark torches have to be lit manually, struck on a wall of stone or ‘rough’ blocks or lit with a flint and steel after placed. When lit, spark torches are much brighter than regular torches, the catch being that they last only for 6 minutes. However they can also light up an area when held making them portable additions to your mining journey. If you right click any walnut tree’s logs with a bowl, you create a tree tap and can collect the sap, the sap can be drunken or be smelted in a smoker to make sugar. However if you smelt sap in a regular furnace, you get pitch.
disclaimer: pitch can’t be obtained from walnut wood in real life but can be from spruce however spruce is already in Minecraft
