    Making the vanilla Minecraft shield properly balanced in the Minecraft Dungeons setting is actually rather tricky, because of how overpowered it is in vanilla, but I don't think it would be impossible and serve as a much needed, skill based way of avoiding damage through means other than dodging.

    What I'm thinking is to turn this artifact's cooldown into more of a pseudo durability mechanic. While it is in use, the player shouldn't be able to do anything but turn, much like how the corrupted beacon works, but in can be deactivated at any time. Deployment time charges the cooldown timer and damage taken by the shield is also converted into cooldown time, so that a quick single hit deployment of the shield is usually a much better idea than to keep it deployed until it "breaks", which puts it on its maximum cooldown of like 10 to 15 seconds. If we want to get really fancy, the percentage of damage blocked would be dependant on the incoming damage type, ranged being nullified, melee being 75% resisted and explosions being only 25% resisted and instantly breaking the shield (so as a creeper counter, it works only to keep you from getting one-shot, not from receiving a crippling amount of damage).

    Levels on this artifact would influence the conversion rate of damage to cooldown time, meaning that a low level shield in a high level mission would only tank a single hit and a high level shield in a low level mission would barely even be affected by incoming damage.
