Echo Shards are generally not all that useful past crafting the recovery compass. And I feel as though giving them their own color option via armor trims is a great way to allow these shards some more use!
Obviously, Netherite already covers the color black, so I have questioned what color Echo Shards would add to a piece of armor instead. Personally, some sort of blue-black gradient is my best interpretation. Though, for a most likely better idea, I call to the comments!
