Inventory management is a hot topic in the Minecraft community right now and many people have proposed different solutions, including Mojang themselves with their experiments with bundles.
My proposed fix is very simple but I think would have a huge impact. I propose that the number of main inventory slots the player has should be increased from 36 (3 rows of 9 slots plus the hot-bar) to 63 (6 rows of 9 slots plus the hot-bar).
This might seem like a dramatic and "overpowered" change, however given the drastic increase in the number of items in Minecraft, this change is actually rather conservative.
There are over 1,000 items in Minecraft currently, and I don't think that it makes any sense for inventory expansion to be locked behind shulker boxes at this point.
A potential negative side effect of this change is that players would be able to bring more items into player-versus-player fights, which could be unbalanced. That being said, I think that the primary focus of Minecraft should be on its singleplayer and cooperative play, and increasing the number of inventory slots would be a huge improvement.
