I think that it is due time for more mushroom types to be added to Minecraft and that Chanterelles would be a perfect fit due to their iconic, bright orange color and real life health benefits. If they were to be added, I think that they should be added to Old Growth Taiga biomes and should grow in patches of 1-4 from a new dirt type that should be a variant of podzol that should vary similar from above but contain little hyphae if observed from below and on the sides. This new type of mycelium should turn into regular dirt on breaking, and turn into regular podzol when broken with Silk Touch, making the only way to move them be to let them spread slowly or to place a Chanterelle on podzol and to bone meal it with a low success rate of introducing Chanterelle Mycelium. Once picked, the mushrooms should be crafted together onto a stick, making a Raw Chanterelle Skewer that will be placed above a campfire to cook, much like in real life. Once done cooking, the mushrooms should turn brown and the item will rename to Cooked Chanterelle Skewer. Once eaten, the mushrooms should restore as much hunger as a cooked steak and give some effect like regeneration or absorption to reflect the real life health benefits of eating cooked Chanterelles. I think that the addition of Chanterelles would greatly improve the survivability of Old Growth Taiga biomes and increase the incentive to visit them.
