While we do have suspicious gravel and sand, having no red sand is a missed opportunity. Map makers and datapack creators who want to add their own archaeology structures to their worlds are limited to just either pallets of grey rock and pale yellow sand.
When caves and cliffs was first being rolled out in the snapshots, the deepslate iron, emerald, and coal ores were absent from them, but added later for the reason of "map makers," as they were to never generate in the base game
A datapack that someone could work on could have a red desert biome that adds sandy ruins to, but are unable to without using the out of place gray or yellow sand, having them be out of place and easily distinguishable, as opposed to the careful and observant ways of searching that archaeology is supposed to be all about!
