Right now, finding a stronghold and entering the portal (any portal), throws you into a fight against the ender dragon; some times spawning you at a problematic location, and after the fight, you may go explore the outer islands, to acquire the final items.
This seem a bit backwards and rather anticlimactic to me, so here is what I would want instead:
- The end portals in the strongholds now sent you to the outer islands, enabling you to acquire the elytra sooner, as well as other items. However, end- ships and cities contain a new type of block; that emits an effect that disables elytras within a large radius, forcing players to overcome these structures the old fashion way, to break/disable these blocks.
- Around the outer islands spawns these new structures, which features a block that needs to be powered (perhaps using what powers the anti-flying blocks). Activating, let's say 8, opens a portal at each of these structures, which then takes you to the central island (perhaps an internal border keeps players from flying there).
- Arriving at the central island, another anti-flying block is active and the players must traverse an obstacle course, while being harassed by the dragon, to reach it. The dragon should be way more active; attacking the players and defending the crystals, and the fight itself would be mostly aerial, above a shattered arena. (the dragon's AI and moveset would require an update for this)
This fight should have multiple stages and some actual threatening minions.
