I'm personally disappointed in trim. I wish it had more utility because, as it stands, the only people who will seek it are those who play multiplayer or make content so they can show it to their friends and viewers. This addition has no real value to solo players.
Trim could have some value to solo players if trims could have set effects (when you get a complete set you get some kind of new ability). For example: silent trim set could instill fear in monsters and make them avoid you. A rare trim set in end ship chests could allow you to warp to ender chests that you've placed in any realm. A trim could be a super rare drop from killing warden and ithe set makes you invulnerable to fire damage. A trim found only in blacksmith chests could allow you add 1 additional level on all level enchantments and exceed the anvil cost limit (or access new enchantments). The mansion trim could double loot drops in new chests opened. The outpost trim could have arrow deflection. The stronghold trim set could give you the ability "iron fist" that allows you to mine things that normally require an iron pickaxe with punches (and make punches do more damage. Chests in mineshafts could have trim that allows one to craft Redstone with most blocks to make the whole block conductive to other blocks modified the same way. The trim was such a huge missed opportunity.
