Recently, it seems as if the updates to Minecraft are focusing towards a safer environment for all players. I agree with this. However, the outrage of this censorship and moderation is for good reason. I believe that there is a better alternative that will reach the same goals Mojang Studios may have. Parental controls.
Parents of those under 18 set up their child's account. During this set up phase, they can have the option for this account to be for someone above the age of 18, or below. Alternatively, the user's birthday could be used if Mojang's plan needs this to be so. This would allow for the account to switch to an over 18 account once they are of age. Assuming the former plan, the account could be manually switched over in the parental controls.
Additionally, parental controls could have fine tuning options if perhaps they have an older child, or the user of the account is over 18 but wishes not to see foul language. Some examples or suggestions for these settings would be censoring foul language, allowing 3rd party software (modding), only Mojang approved servers or none at all, and anything else that is needed to protect those who use Minecraft's new safety features.
Overall, I believe this change would improve the public's image of the game, while also not sacrificing the much needed safety of young players. This is a suggestion for the good of the community, and for the company. If censoring is led too far, I'm afraid Minecraft will drastically lose it's fans.
