Minecart with furnace is known as the most useless thing in minecraft amongst players (when they know this thing is in the game). I think it deserves more attention because it is a good concept, but it has a major flaws, that make it what it is known for:
1) Disconnecting on turn
It is awesome you can make a train with this kind of minecart, but all that ends when there is a turn. Just why it disconnects? Also, there should be an option to connect minecarts together with string or something like this on right click instead of having to pushing them together against block.
2) It can't push minecarts when it is connected to them
Another thing I don't understand. No one want's to pick up the furnace minecart, put it on the other side of a train an then connect it again with that weird technique against block just to drive in a different direction.
3) We are unable to stop it
Train that is unable to stop is as useful as water bucket in the Nether.
Not as important as the ones above:
Interface - furnace interface should be added so you can stack fuel there, or to change the directions and to stop the minecart.
Fuel - In an ordinary furnace, you can burn all kind of things from sticks to lava buckets. In furnace minecart you can burn only coal and charcoal for some reason.
Number of connectable minecarts - make it at least 5 please
Minecarts with furnace are there with us since 2010 and they are just lying in shadows. If you fixed these things above, it would get the love I think it deserves.
