The echo shards and their apparent idea of echoing souls is severely underutilized, so here is one idea for giving them a massive buff in sandbox utility through the introduction of just one item: The Echo Mimic.
This thing would be crafted with echo shards to give it its properties, sculk to give it mass and an armor stand to give it the general shape of the player.
While holding it in the off-hand, it records each of the player's left- and right-click actions up to a maximum of let's say 3, as well as the potential tools being used, angle the player was looking at, the relative locations they were standing in for each action and the timing of the actions. Some caps may potentially be required for those last two.
Placing it in the main hand and right-clicking it on the ground would then spawn an echo mimic, a mass of sculk mimicking the player's form, which then immediately proceeds to go through all the recorded motions in an endless loop, creating sculky item replicas if need be. Moving them through an external force also offsets their entire routine and destroying them causes them to only drop echo shards (not necessarily all of the once used in crafting).
The main purpose of these echo mimics is to remove the requirement for the player to exist in single action afk farms, like cobblestone generators or mob farms, but with a bit of creativity, they may also serve as an eerie haunted house attraction or a lonely solo player's makeshift group of friends to populate the world.
