  That seems more like something a shield spike smithing template should do with copper acting as one of the lower tiers for such a modification. Technically not a bad idea, if it weren't for the fact, that the shield currently is already overpowered as is, making it more powerful would only give it more ways in which to outmatch the rest of your gear. 

  What I'm saying is, before any cool additions like this can be made to it, the basic shield first needs to be nerfed for them to be acceptable.

  This, actually isn’t that outlandish! Before we (humans) learned how to shape iron, we would always use copper, bronze, and even obsidian to make various kinds of tools. Back then, when people heard the word, “Shield” they imagined bronze and copper, not iron and titanium.

  Make it round like a music disc not a perfect circle because that's not how Minecraft works

  Just craft it like a normal shield but with copper instead of iron.
