The Trail Ruins look more like a Trail Mix

I think that the palette is super confused, making a fairly ugly looking structure. Sand, dirt and gravel all next to each other like this is quite jarring, especially with the terracotta colours right there too. It just feels a bit messy, and could be much better looking, which is a bit of a shame, since an archaeology structure is a super rad concept!

Tweaking the blocks used would really elevate this!

    Very ugly, honesty

It can be made into a more pleasant-looking structure.

The build looks like it's made by a 5y.o and it isn't "Minecrafty".

The Trail Ruins are an interesting structure with an intriguing underlying mystery. However, they stick out like a sour thumb. The structure doesn't blend well with the surrounding biome. I would propose that more variants of the structure are added to rectify this issue but keep the ugliness as it shows the decrepit nature of the structue. I believe more suspicious blocks could be a great way to allow this variety.

I think that Trail Ruins should generate further underground with a variant for the deepslate level.

The structure looks great, it's got a good amount of exclusive loot but I think it'd be good to make some of the non-exclusive loot more worthwhile. Put some iron & gold ingots in there! Hell, maybe even a diamond every once in a while to reward players for taking the time to dig out the entire structure.

My friends and I agree, this is very out of place compared to other structures. New structures is fun and we love the idea. But this looks bad. Will probably need variants depending on biome to make it more aesthetically pleasing, as the ones shown so far would look better in a dry biome.

From what I've been told, the idea behind Trails and Tales is about self expression and story telling and for the later, that's hard to do if all the the trail structures the same. Furthermore, the tales being told have to be believable on some level, even after suspending belief. Having this structure in the middle of a lush green area isn't inherently believable since a lot of lore in Minecraft is covered in mystery so we have no baseline level of disbelief.

One could also assume that the idea is that a majority would be mostly underground. I can see where that idea is coming from here. There are roman cities being unearthed as time goes on. But is that what players will do? Or will they just learn where the loot is, grab it, and go.

I also don't think we need these underwater. We already have sunken ships, ocean monuments, and ruins that tell a story. Would be better to redesign or make variants of those. adding a trail, even with conduit power wouldn't be ideal for the reason I mentioned above. People will learn where the loot is, grab it, and go. If there's an easier way to do it above water, then a player would probably do that.

The trims are cool but the structure is really strange, it could have some improvement.

This structure could have a better appearance, be more like an archaeological site. Could also have exclusive loot in this structure :)

It looks very ugly. It may have a better look with other updates

I thought it was really cool! Only I think it shouldn't appear in caves full of water!

I think they're great! After uncovering them, they also actually look pretty good! The promotional material should probably better get across the idea of them being buried cities that the player uncovers.

The loot could also be refined a tiny bit, right now it feels "cluttery"

I think the generation should look more like buried buildings and less like clay and dirt, maybe some presets that randomly generate that make it look more like buildings. I love the idea, just needs a little tweaking.

Talking about it, those kind of structure have a pretty gross and ugly looking that makes the player kind of unsatisfied only by taking a brief sight into it, so it could be rebuild to better fit at Minecraft building and structuring style.

maybe should generate more exposed, partially buried.

a slight redesign, a possible more intact version like the Ocean Ruins

Ok, first of all: contrary to what people are saying, I really appreciate that these structures use terracotta and mud blocks. Could they be prettier? Yes, but I like that they are used instead of stone bricks again. They also help recognize the structure: if you see red terracotta while exploring a forest, you know there's a trail ruin there.

However, these can be a lot better, too, starting with loot. I feel like stone tools make more sense instead of wooden ones, since stone is usually better preserved than wood. Besides that, no one will want to explore a ruin if the only thing they'll get are some low-tier tools, candles, glass panes and pottery shards.

This can be said of all archaeology structures: It's cool that ocean ruins get sniffer eggs, but each structure should have their own unique loot, as well as more useful things overall (nautilus shells in the ocean, anvils in the trail ruins... something actually useful). Tools and crops give ambience, but don't incentivize looting. Not even pottery shards do, sadly.

I hope loot gets worked on to the point Ulraf and the team talked about when archaeology was first revealed, there's a lot that can be improved!

I used the fill command to clear out one and I don't think this looks like a ruined anything. I just looks like someone randomly placed various blocks around the place until they got bored and left. I seriously hope this is some sort of placeholder and the actual Trail Ruins will be nothing like this. The Ancient City looks ruined and great, the Underwater Ruins - while fairly basic - look like ruins. I'm never going to defend the Jungle Temple, but that at least looks like a structure with some plan to it. It baffles me that this thing ended up looking like it does.

Experience points for excavating artifacts would make this structure more worthwile.

I feel if there was less variation in block types both per room and as a whole structure it would be better, the wide variability making each one feel unique is great but it can cause a lot of clashing colors and blocks to appear

I think the structure can have different variations, and maybe a little more refining on the current one, sure it’s a ruin, but maybe refining it a little would make the community pleased or at least the ones who are calling it ugly

I am really excited about the Trail Ruins but I have to agree with the others here that the colors are a huge eyesore. Using normal "bricks" blocks, a less clashing terracotta palette, or perhaps some deepslate bricks or tiles (to create a possible link to the Ancient Cities?) would improve them greatly. Or maybe a "terracotta tiles" or "terracotta mosaic" block could be added.

As for the loot, perhaps some unique banners (like the pillager outpost banners, but something different) could be found in the ruins. Or more banner patterns.

I don't like the look of these ruins, I believe it doesn't suit Minecraft. Something like an abandoned dig site as shown in the first announcement of the archeology system would be really nice, as it would give more immersion in finding them around the world. Giving an air that some civilization used that structure in the past, as is the case with abandoned mines.

    • Imo it just looks like a bunch of random colourful blocks smashed together with sus blocks & too many dyes in them.

    • An Idea: Trail Ruin Maps sold by cartographers since they havent had any trade updates since 1.11 and the ruins could be easy to miss/find (unrelated to the ruins but what about also making cartographers sell Desert Temple & Jungle Temple Maps)

    • Also maybe make them generate a bit higher up so players wont get bored digging up 4 chunks to find the whole thing.

A fun and useful thing that could be added to the loot obtained from this structure is weapon/tool smithing templets. We really don't need many of these templets like the armor smithing templets maybe like 2-4 just so that we can distinguish between our tools and show them off especially when this update is all about story telling and self expression these tool trims could really add the extra flare of excitement to archeology. It can also be a fun way to incentivize players to come look for these ruins since while armor smithing templets can be found in nearly all structures, these could be a fun exclusive find here.
