While I understand this is technically two different topics, I feel like they'd be so intrinsically linked that I couldn't make one post without the other, so they're both here together.
One of the big things I'm anticipating for Minecraft's future is the upcoming combat update, and what changes it will bring to the game. However, I also worry that it won't amount to much more than some balance tweaking without adding anything substantial to the game's combat system.
I believe a much needed feature for Minecraft's combat would be the ability to dodge; enacting the sprint input in the left/right/back directions would cause the player to lurch a few blocks in that, well, direction. This would greatly increase the combat skill ceiling and be a much needed addition to the game, especially in PVP.
In order to balance this new powerful ability, I suggest adding a weight penalty to armor depending on how protective it is. This would impact the distance the player can dodge as well as the speed in which they can sprint. For example: A set of leather armor would have no armor weight, meaning it would still allow for full dodging and sprinting, where as netherite armor would be so heavy that wearing a full set would make you unable to sprint or dodge at all.
