Aether

Aether portal and mechanics

I'll keep it as short and simple as I can. There could be a rare type of Glowstone found scattered throughout the lower layers of the Nether, perhaps under the lava. (Requiring fireproof potions to mine) It could only be mined by Diamond or Netherite. This way the Aether portal wouldn't be too easy to build with the easily accessible common ceiling Glowstone. 

the "lighter" for the portal could be crafted with a water splash potion, the heart of the sea, and flint and steel, or maybe a lighter surrounded by hearts of the sea. (Or something along those lines)

The frame could be built in the same shape as the Nether portal. 

As for the dimension itself, maybe it could be a multi-layered biome like the Nether, but with clouds and water instead of Netherack and Lava. Perhaps there could be a new mobs and ore introduced there as well. (Example; "Aetherite")

The community has been anticipating any news of an Aether update for some time, and I think many people would be very happy to have it genuinely considered. (Not necessarily this specific idea, but one involving the Aether in general.)
