The amplified world type is wacky and incredible but then you hop through a nether portal and it's completely standard, there's only ~90 traversable blocks of height between the lava oceans at y=32 and the bedrock roof starting at y=123, compared to the now ~250 traversable blocks in the overworld above sea level that the amplified world takes full advantage of. Even just expanding the y levels that are actually used in the nether even without changing the world gen to be more mountainous like the overworld amplified is, would greatly increase how interesting nethers are in amplified worlds. Given that everything seems to function on nether roofs with blocks and mob spawning this doesn't seem like it wouldn't take too long to change either.
