Right clicking a non empty cauldron with a piece of leather armor will tag it with “soaked”. Upon equipping the armor, the wearer gets the potion effect if any for up to 30 seconds depending on the effect(s) or “wet” in the case of just water. The player cannot see what potion effect the armor is soaked with similar to how suspicious stews work (but they can see that it is “soaked”).
To make it separate from soaking, players would need to right click and hold to wash the dye/remove previous effects. If the player does not wish to risk an unknown effect, they can ‘hang it out to dry’ by placing it on an armor stand, which as an entity, would take the effects instead.
This would give leather armor a viable use in pvp. Imagine a player attacking who they think is an unprepared player but them throwing on armor with regeneration, strength, instant health, or (with commands) resistance? Or imagine falling into lava and throwing on a fire res soaked chestplate.
Note: this idea is contingent on the fact that potions in cauldrons are added to Java too.
I came up with this idea a while ago, but this is made even more useful with the new armor swapping feature in the latest snapshot.
