The "deep" ocean is not even deep enough to drown if you were to swim up from the top. You can also easily see the floor from a boat on the surface.
My generation tweak would be to make the 'Deep Ocean' Biome cut into deepslate layers, going atleast to Y=0 in depth, maybe even more.
