    This would be a good added item for copper, though it shouldn't be able to hold lava, however, Mojang tends to focus on adding new items that serve a new purpose leaving stuff like this to mods. If iron was harder to come by, you could make a progression argument, but that usually isn't the case. It's just more convenient to use copper since Iron is part of way more recipes.
