you could get steel if you smelt an iron ingot. And with steel you could craft armor and weapons that are stronger than iron but not as strong as diamond

  I think this might be a little bit unnecessary to Minecrafts progression. Iron is already the second strongest armor in the game and I think it would be a little redundant to make a tier of armor that is between iron and diamond. (Netherite is its own armor set but its an upgrade to diamond)

  And you could make steel armor and it would be
  Stronger than iron armor and tools that have
  More durability then iron tools but still be as fast as iron tools

  Instead you could make steel by combining coal and iron, and you could use it to craft chainmail
