I think we're going in the wrong direction here. The Netherrite Upgrade item is simply here to make a problem that didn't exist in the first place, and it doesn't make too much sense in terms of lore either.

I believe the better option would be to instead provide other upgrade options than Netherrite. Diamond would be the standard all-round armor, Netherrite could be tanky like it normally is but slow you down, and another armor could be more focused on projectile resistance, etc. This way we can nerf Netherrite so that it doesn't feel too overpowered for the time it takes to get it, but also provide other options in case some don't like the change; everyone can now have a more unique playstyle as Netherrite won't be the end-all be-all. This would also give the Smithing Table many more uses.

I don't really think this is a good idea because Netherite is already EXTREMELY rare, so I think it is unnecessary to make a "Netherite Upgrade Table" or something. Otherwise I'll stick with diamonds, because Netherite is not worth it, it's too rare.

Maybe it's just me who doesn't like the difficulty of the Nether already, but I feel like Netherite doesn't really need added difficulty for an upgrade to armor and tools that isn't massively significant. I think having to find it in Bastions is just going to make the game more frustrating, though I might not mind it so much if the template isn't consumed. To me, it overcomplicates getting Netherite and won't add much value to the game, for me at least. I don't think that Bastions should be integral in the same way that Strongholds are, as they're already very valuable and interesting structures that I don't think need to be a required part of game progression to be fun and interesting as they already are.

    这个模板实在是太昂贵了,普通玩家找不了。所以说呢,我希望这个模板不要添加到游戏中。

If bastions are going to become part of progression despite their rarity and difficulty to find, they need to spawn exactly 1 template every time.

Imagine if a stronghold only had a 10% chance to have a portal? Now imagine we didn't have eyes of ender and had to rely on just finding one in the wild. That's what a bastion is. On top of that, we're expected to find at least 4 bastions for armour and 5 for tools, and there's no guarantees there won't be duplicates. At 10% chance it's possible we'll need to find 90 bastions to complete our set, and that's if we don't get duplicates

In my mind, the best solution would be to add a chest to the bastions that are 100% guaranteed to have a "blank netherite template". This template cannot be duplicated, but it can be turned into a template of your choice. Once you craft it into a helmet template for example, THEN you are allowed to duplicate it. This way you still need to explore 9 bastions, but you know that there will be something important every single time you find one and you will have the excitement of exploration without the pain of RNG progression loot that saps the fun out of everything.

A comment above also suggests making the template enter a broken repairable state instead of being duplicated, this would be excellent as they would not be distributed across the server immediately after being found

i personally have not seen this concern anywhere, this sounds good in theory but i believe it would become an issue in populated servers, finding netherite would be severely harder in servers because of this looting aspect. making it a rare drop from piglin bartering as ive seen someone else suggest would help this issue but without a renewable way to get it netherite would just be an absolute pain to get

I think the ability should exist to disable this feature prior to world creation like we can with spawning the warden. I know many people are comfortable with this addition because they believe netherite is easy to obtain, not everyone plays the same as them and even lacks the same skills. If I'm being honest, I've played minecraft for 12 years and I still struggle to obtain netherite simply because I play the game with emphasis on creativity over conquest. Additionally, those playing on super flay or finite words would lack the materials to support this new provision, especially if they played with other players. I wont lie, this update doesn't excite me as I lack the sufficient leisure time in my day to dedicate to such a feat in a single mine craft world.

One last note, PLEASE start making this addition obvious when detailing everything in this update. I found out about this on TIKTOK and I watched the 1.20 announcement live detailing everything but this addition.

I hate this the most also I think most of the community will agree that.
    Plss remove it.
Minecraft is not always realistic. Stick with that and figure out a way to remove the netherite upgrade template and bring back the old way to craft netherite.
It costs 7 diamond worth of template to make a diamond shovel into a netherite shovel.
If mojang don't want to remove it just make the netherite items more durable and defensive.
But most of us want it to be removed completely.
    Pls take my feedback seriously.

maybe instead of an upgrade template, which has no real life counterpart, it could be a reusable upgrade    hammer? it could work the same, but just make more logical sense

The netherite upgrade template is a terrible idea all around. We have never needed to find blueprints or templates to craft armour and tools before, so it does not fit with the vanilla gameplay at all. It's very awkward and inelegant. It's just an additional grindy and expensive roadblock to upgrading gear, and by making it so expensive and a consumable item it will ruin the multiplayer market by allowing rich, early server members to monopolize the availability of netherite upgrades to later players.

Are you planning to add blueprints and crafting recipes as endgame loot as well, so you have to get to the nether to make a crafting table and the End in order to make an iron pickaxe? This is just all around a very terrible and awkward addition to the game, there should never be a need to track down rare blueprints for crafting and customization in Minecraft.

i hope the netherite upgrade pattern will be included also in nether fortresses or at least in every chest in bastion to make it easier because it's nearly impossible to raid a bastion without netherite armor to protect from lava

also it's better to make netherite upgrade pattern and armor trims non consumable just like banner patterns or requires ingredients easier than diamond to dupe him so minecraft will not be very hard

I do not think having a template for netherite is a good idea. Locking the crafting recipe for it behind a template that's randomly obtained in a chest would make the game frustrating and doesn't really make sense, since you being able to do all the crafting recipes is the way the game's been. Templates as banner patterns for already-made armor is a lot more in line.

I think it's better to add a new item such as a forge that can't be crafted and can only be mined with a netherite pickaxe, and must be found in the nether (in fortresses, bastions, or other generated structures later down the line.) We can call it a "nether forge" and it could serve as either the only way to smelt ancient debris (with an infinite amount of fuel) or the only way to craft netherite ingots (it has a 4x4 crafting grid and the netherite ingot would require 4 netherite in a line and 4 gold in a line next to each other to craft horizontal or vertical, similar to how bread is crafted.) It breaks quite quickly with a netherite pickaxe and will drop itself, but very slowly with diamond and below and will not drop itself. If you want to mine it and take it home with you, you must do it with a netherite pickaxe, so that way, most of us would have to craft our first netherite gear in the nether. Netherite should also be buffed if it's made harder to craft to justify it, as it's pretty unnecessary and a rather small upgrade to diamond in its current state that nerfing it just for endgame purposes is needless.

It's a great idea, however, the name and the texture really, really bother me. For one, it's just borderline lazy (no offense, you guys are a great team) to call it "netherite upgrade" and put a blue arrow on the texture. In the past, Mojang has always been great at implementing features in a unique way. When the community asked for backpacks, you gave them shulker boxes. When the community asked for lava boats, you gave them striders. This, however, this doesn't have the same unique, "Minecrafty" feel that those other features had. The name and texture break immersion and make it feel like a gameplay feature, rather than a part of the Minecraft universe. My point is, don't call it the "netherite updgrade". Call it, like, I don't know, reinforced diamond, or netherite plating or something. It shouldn't feel like a literal powerup. Right now, this feature feels incredibly cliche, and I hope that this will be changed at some point.

Otherwise, this new snapshot is INSANE. You guys are a great team.

hate it, makes netherite even harder to upgrade to, maybe they could make it obtainable in nether fortresses as well at least

I think that this would be very rare and in turn make it very annoying for the younger fans who deserve to be recognised in this vote

The Upgrade Template should upgrade diamond into more than just netherite. There should be more alloy armor types. Each alloy would have different characteristics, buffs, and/or enchantment affinities.

Wait, the Smithing Template will be called “Netherite Upgrade"? It needs a better name than that.

No, but if you do, make it repairable, just like Elytra, which can be repaired with Phantom Membrane. But I'm against this idea.

I think that the concept of it is quite nice, but instead of it being crafteable we should be able to get it by trading with piglins. Also, it'd be nice to change the current texture, as it does not make sense.

I don’t like this. At all. I’ve been playing on a world going on 7 years, and I don’t want to have to travel five kilometers in the nether just to get my Diamond hoe up to netherite for leaf farming

Having played since 1,14. The 1.16 update was the best my eyes because you could easily get the best armor and tools very easily but if you now have to go and find the template you might end up dying along the way to a bastion and after fighting the piglins not to have the template it seems like a waste of the players time. But for me neatherrite never needed a template to combine with diamond I think things should stay as they were.

I honestly think it's a horrible idea. The way it is at the moment Netherite isn't worth grinding for. Making it harder will just solidify that. No one likes mining through the Nether, and no one wants to go on a pig step hunt before they have to do so. I already stay in diamond gear because the benefits of upgrading to Netherite gear is so minimal and digging/ blasting away through a bunch of the most useless block in the game and copious amounts of lava just isn't worth that minimal of an upgrade.

If you are gonna do this. At least make the bastion easier to raid and more common. But maybe have it found in a new stronghold place. with a little bit harder difficulty than normal. Maybe also have a netherrite elytra upgrade

I have to point out that duplicating the netherite upgrade template for 7 diamonds is a bit to expensive especially as it would cost even more for the tools as well plus you need to keep in mind that bastions are somewhat hard to find and some people do not have the expertise to find bastions the other thing is that netherite is already fairly expensive as the ancient debris is rare and already needs gold as part of the recipe the other thing that makes netherite expensive is that you need diamond weapons tools and armor in order to even upgrade and also the only advantages netherite gives is that it does not burn in lava when you die, has high knock back resistance, and resists critical hits if you are wondering what the armor toughness stat is but that is not even useful unless you are on a pvp multiplayer server thus I thing the netherite upgrade template should only cost a gold ingot and netherack in order to duplicate or at least one diamond this is my opinion however I don't mind the idea of the armor trimming being expensive to duplicate especially as it encourages the player to explore a little more from time to time but I think the armor trimming should have 4 uses each and can be repaired with diamonds to be used again when wanted.
