I really like the idea of having a gold trim to stop piglins from attacking. I would suggest a default increase in the spawn rate of bastions to make it slightly easier to get the netherite upgrade.

i think copper in trims should be oxydating.

The new upgrade system is a good improvement over the old one however it should be further tweaked as follows:

    • the block used to duplicate the trim should be a block of ancient debris or a piece of netherite scrap instead of netherrack
    • the upgrade trim is currently found only in treasure chests in remnants and is guaranteed to be generated there. I think that it should have only a chance of 30 per cent to be generated in a tresure room chest with a maximum of 1 trim per bastion

I personally play Minecraft with my friends on a server and we use diamonds as a currency (like many other servers) giving us a reason to go mine if we want to. I don't get the argument: "many people find themselves with too many diamonds" if they don't need them don't go getting them. I also voice my concern that this change to upgrading to netherite doesn't have enough reward for the cost I might find having to go dig for diamonds reasonable if I was getting more than what I already am. On top of that I think having to go get diamonds for the template and dig for 30-70 hours (yes my luck is that bad) defeats the purpose of getting villagers to sell you diamond stuff as an alternative (2-5 hours to dig up the diamonds I need for the tools and armour or 3-4 hours to set up my villagers), because why bother with setting up the one time diamond armor and tool purchases when I will have to go mining for more time anyway, I might as well just get my tools that way also. If you decide to remove the upgrade template I suggest having the trim templates go in the netherite ingot slot so the smithing menu it isn't too cluttered. If not I suggest to put a different block as the cost for duping this template like maybe obsidian, so you have to make a lava farm or go in the nether to gather it from the lava seas and a little bonus to this is that it has a nether link. And if the other templates are just visual changes it is even more unreasonable to dupe them with 7 diamonds.

I like the change, In my main world I have 3 stacks of diamond blocks sat in a shulker box doing nothing, this is from fairly casual play over the last year.

I bought my armor and tools from Villagers, which is very easy to set up.

Diamonds are supposed to be one of the most valuable gems in the game, but they end up worthless as the only thing that actually requires them for crafting, That we are unable to get elsewhere is a Jukebox.

Using them to duplicate the Smithing Templates finally re-adds in some much needed value to Diamonds.

I'm 41, I play local multi-player with 4 kids aged 7-12. Netherite is already hard to get for them and it doesn't last without mending. We once went 3 months in a world without funding a nether fortress. So I fear having it only in bastions.

This is a reductive change. It takes netherite from a hard to obtain item for them, to nearly unachievable, given now it will be hard to even get a template let alone duplicate it. Some of them are pretty Diamond poor. You'll lock them out of content they use to have.

Making netherite armor and tools harder to obtain? Great! Making it heavily RNG dependent and even more grindy than it was before? NOT great! And it probably makes it impossible to get a template on a server if anybody decides to hoard them

also the trims use a little bit too many diamonds to duplicate

As much as I like most of the changes here, it seems a little excessive to have the recipe for any of the smithing templates to use 7 diamonds. Maybe the smithing template recipes can tone down on the use of diamonds a little bit, but not too much. The recipes might seem a little too expensive, diamonds themselves are finally getting another use so the templates should still use some diamonds.

The Netherite Upgrade template doesn't make much sense in the context of Minecraft and the design philosophy behind its crafting system. Even outside of the Crafting Table, there's always an implication that the list of ingredients for any item is based in some form of reality or practicality.

Theres the implication that every item is deliberately used for something. With tools for example, we have sticks that are clearly used to make up the handle, and the resources are used for the actual tool part, such as the blade of a sword.

So I ask the question, what *is* the Netherite Upgrade Template? Obviously its the item that allows you to upgrade your gear, but within the *universe* of Minecraft, what is it? What does our character even do with it when upgrading their gear? I can't recall any other instance of this happening within the game. This would be like if you had to craft a Cake by combining Wheat, Eggs and Sugar with some item called "Cake Template".

I think a very simple fix for this would be to just change the name and texture of the item into something that actually exists within the world of Minecraft. Perhaps a powerful Ember that's hot enough to melt Netherite, giving the implication that the Player is using the item to mold Netherite into Armor and Tools. Like how Beskar from Star Wars is melted into Armor. Or maybe some type of Smithing stone, implying youre using it to refine Netherite into Tools and such.

I hope any of what I said made any sense, lol.

if netherite needs to be harder to obtain with more resources, at least do it with something that can be a bit less finite. piglin trading? a boss/mob drop? keeping it in bastions creates a similar problem to elytra, where new players in a survival multiplayer server have to travel much further to get the same resources as the people before

Se podrían agregar nuevos encantamientos con la nueva forma de conseguirá armadura de netherite, o mejoras dependiendo del material con el cual lo combines

I think the increase in difficulty warrants a rebalancing of the effectiveness of each armor set. For me personally, the gameplay benefits of netherite armor would not be worth switching from my Diamond gear that has mending and unbreaking. Perhaps if netherite gear got a slight armor/efficiency buff people would be more willing to spend the extra diamonds. Maybe the new rarity of netherite tools can provide a route to instant mining deep slate. This would give the tool a practical use throughout the game. The netherite pick could specifically have the buff for just deepslate blocks for example. This would protect the viability of diamond tools.

To sum up my feedback. Netherite gear needs a unique reason for players to want to upgrade from diamond with the new difficulty of acquisition.

I think that the upgrade to armour with the new trim will be a really good new addition to the game. The only thing for me is to copy/ duplicate a template should be more difficult to obtain, maybe add another step to obtaining it? My reasons for this are because I would like to feel I've achieved my armour and not found the template once and just copied it with ease. It should be a rare find in my opinion, similar to items such as the dragon egg or nether star.

To avoid the problem that some players on bigger servers raid all bastions and take all copies of the template, why not make it also an extremely rare drop (idk like 0.01 %) of some respawning structure related mobs. Make an alternative texture for e.g. piglings (not brutes since they dont respawn) that spawn in bastions and have that drop. It won't make obtaining the template easier but would give all players the chance to get it.

Make the template also an extremely rare drop of some bastion related respawnable mob (idk piglin with a different texture like the husk). Would allow all players on multi player worlds to get one

This change makes getting the netherite equipment a chore and it already was. Way too expensive to duplicate the upgrade, should be a recipe with more common materials and if we have to go to a bastion now to get the armor make these upgrades guaranteed to be at least in one chest. RNG does not make the game fun and many players don’t have the time to keep trying to get these upgrades over and over again, especially in servers

I think a great option to make this less of a strain on large multiplayer worlds and servers would be to make the template renewable by the use of piglin bartering. Make it a super rare bartering option so that players don't have to go super far out in their nether potentially causing corruption issues with their worlds if they need to get more smithing templates. I personally think for this to keep the theme of exploration while making it renewable make it so that it is rare enough that it is still preferred to explore bastions over the bartering.

I think it is good how it is in the snapshot with the upgrade template and duplication with 7 diamonds. Please don’t change it.

People are acting like you need netherite armor to play the game. You don’t, but if you want it you need to put in 1% more effort meaning raiding a Bastion. If its not worth it for you to raid a bastion then don’t simple. The trim costing the same as the upgrade is a little odd. best solution is to make the upgrade coat a netherite block. Each piece of netherite should be prestigious and seeing players with a full set very rare. Changing out the diamonds for netherite ingots when duplicating the template would be a good change too.

Honestly tho why are we not crafting netherite armor like all the other armors with ingots?

It's my opinion that raiding bastions for netherite is 100x more fun than mining for it, so this change doesn't really affect me. Chances are I'll find plenty of templates before I find enough netherite anyway. As far as balancing goes, I genuinely love this change---making netherite always feels anticlimactic, I don't feel like an ancient dwarf forging a powerful alloy into a godly weapon. I just feel like a guy who clicked some buttons. Adding a more involved process is step one, with step two being adding some "powerful" sound effects. The new sink for diamonds is much-needed since fully stacked players just hoard them with no reason to have more than a stack of backups---especially with the overpowered villager trades available.

So personally... I have been brewing on how to say this since the snapshot came out... But quite simply... The changes you are making to Netherite right now will make it so I personally will never use it again. And I've barely even used it since it was introduced.
I do not personally find mining deep in the nether fun at all. At least if it was in the overworld I'd find other ores or good building block during mining, but mining through miles of just netherrack and dodging lava isn't fun. On top of that there isn't a single block in the game that requires you to use netherite, so it doesn't have much practical use, and the fact it floats in lava has never really been that big of a deal to me. Cool yes, but it still doesn't help me if I can't find where I died. ((Another reason you need to make the echo compass easier to get early game but I digress.))
Now that I have to use a crap load of diamonds just to even use the Netherite upgrade just once and I have to raid a Bastion first? I just don't see the value. I'd rather just make a whole new set of fully enchanted diamond armor and tools.
My suggestion is that you make ancient debris at least less rare, and that you maybe add blocks Netherite is needed for mining so I have a reason to use netherite tools again. Right now it's too much grind for too little rewards. Please stop adding things like froglights or Netherite that take super long grinds and make the game harder and just less fun.

The UI of the smithing table for trimming should be changed. At the moment when you go over the trim slot it tells you place a trim here, then if you do so it tells you place a piece of armour here and after you have done that it tells you place a gem here.

It feels odd I think that there should be nothing saying what to put or suggesting what should be put in that crafting slot. If the same happened with the enchanting table it would feel really weird.

Similar to my concerns that the armor trim system was too expensive i feel that the cloning the upgrade recipe is too expensive. Though my reasoning is a bit different. 1. I am a casual player (i have a standard job and am unable to play minecraft more than a few hours a week) and so the extra hours of grind to get the diamonds to work with netherite is infeasible for me. Even as it stands currently the grind to get ancient debris is barely attainable with my few hours a week i have to play minecraft. Secondly it manifests for me as an accessibility issue. Because of my disability (dexterity and mobility impairments) i have a hard time having a fast reaction or interactions during combat. As a result I have an extremely difficult time during combat situations as the fast reactions necessary are physically difficult for me. This means that I die in most combat situations. I have compensated for this in the past by putting in the grind to get netherite armor or playing in peaceful mode (which loses a lot of the experience of the game tbh) However the increased grind for netherite will make the get geared up strategy even more infeasible. Though i recognize i am not the majority with my disability experiences and accommodating my experience may not be the most fun solution for the game.

Possible solution add durability to the netherite upgrade pattern. This way it can be used more than once and repaired. You could even put the durability low say two uses to keep a high cost.

The idea of this is very good, but this will be too difficult for players upgrading from full diamond to full netherite, as it will cost an extra 49 diamonds to upgrade their gear, as for a whole set of diamond armor and tools (not including a hoe) will only cost them 33 diamonds. Instead of changing the recipe, I would recommend you cancel it for the Netherite Upgrading since ancient debris is already difficult to find, there is no any purpose to make it harder for upgrading.

I'm fine with making netherite harder to obtain since it gives more of a reason to explore bastions but they should really buff the stats too since at the moment even with the easier crafting recipe I only really upgrade for the sake of upgrading. The new crafting recipe will probably make me even less likely to ever upgrade since netherite tools won't help me much at all. I also think the name, texture, and crafting recipe of the netherite upgrader don't make sense. The texture and name are really out of place when compared to most other things in Minecraft. Lastly I think the crafting recipe should contain only items you can naturally get in the nether like magma cream or nether quartz so that those items can be more useful in the game. Overall I think this is a step in the right direction it just needs better balancing and some lore improvements.

I said it before but now I'm saying it here:

The netherite upgrade should be in both the nether fortress and bastions, but be rarer in the fortress and somewhat uncommon in the bastion. In a multiplayer setting, having only 2-3 upgrades will leave many players out if someone does a solo raid on a bastion, making it unfair for others looking to upgrade as well.

I feel like it should be a little harder to get since by the time you upgrade your armor you probably already have extra diamonds

Netherite Gear shouldnt be changed. I dont have any ideas about tools
Netherite armor needs to be buffed in defense stats and be even easier to enchant.
I don’t think that soul speed should damage any pear of boots but it definitely should not damage netherite boots.
Netherite armor should provide some magic resistance maybe 1/3 damage it does currently
Maybe while wearing full netherite while fighting the ender dragon the player cant be flung as high or at all because of the weight or a magical lore reason
While wearing netherite armor the player is immune to fire damage and will take reduced damage while swimming in lava, you still burn in lava just take less damage but, upon exiting the nearest lava source you will not be on fire.
2 pieces or full netherite armor piglins will be afraid of the player and will avoid them like they are zombified piglins. If the player is holding a gold ingot the piglins won’t runway from the player, but also will not run towards them or any nearby dropped gold ingots. If the player is wearing netherite armor and wants to barter with piglins they will have to hold gold ingots and drop them very near the piglin.
Piglin brutes will not attack the player in full netherite armor but will not be afraid of them like normal piglins. They will attack if provoked and so will all nearby piglins.
If a normal piglin is attacked only the piglins in that chunk will attack the player.
    Zombified piglins will not change
