I have only one problem with the netherite upgrade. Multiplayer servers will run out of the netherite upgrade making it impossible to new players to get it, and especially on lifesteal servers or other pvp servers  it will make the game unfair to new players wanting netherite. singleplayer I don't have a problem with only multiplayer. The item is cool but maybe the arrow could be switched out for a netherite ingot because its fits the items name. Maybe the item could be crafted but it could be super expensive maybe including the nether star because its only including with beacon. But this only a suggestion

It should be named something other than "Netherite Upgrade". That name feels too meta, too video game-y.

I don't really like this idea, as I feel like getting netherite armour is challenging enough already. Not only do you need diamonds, but it also takes a very long time to find ancient debris, even if you are using bed bombing. I feel like it will just make getting netherite even harder...

The upgrade template being consumable makes no sense to me, both gameplay-wise and from a realistic point of view (why would a smithing template be broken when using it?). From a gameplay perspective, it looks like this mechanic was just added artificially to give diamonds some use, without any justification behind it.

If you wanted to add some cost to upgrading armor, you could have designed alternatives like making the smithing table break over time (analog to the anvil) or require XP to use the templates (analog to enchanting).

What could be a cool new mechanic seems like just a lazy implementation that looks more like an amateur mod rather than a part of the vanilla game.

The idea of the netherite upgrade module is great for single player. It is definitely too easy to get netherite and finding a couple of bastions isn't too big of a deal. The problem is larger multiplayer servers. When a new server starts you always have the people going out of their way to get all of the elytras, destroying all the blaze spawners or claiming them if available, etc. Relying on others to duplicate for you is fine on small communities but large ones people quit, hoard valuables, and scalp for prices. A great idea would be keeping the bastion spawning idea and adding the module as an ultra rare piglin trade. I would much rather spend 3 hours trading with piglin and grinding gold then having to go 30k+ blocks out in the nether to generate new bastions after a ton of people already looted and lost the modules. This way the module will be a renewable resource rather than them all going away within a week of a large server being up.

Add a new structure to the nether it will make the upgrade more exciting to find. A new mob to would be cool and can we pls use it on diamond blocks?

I don't like this because it makes it way harder to get netherite :(.

I don't like this at all, if I'm being honest. It feels so much like a mod, from the sprite to the name of the item. Netherite isn't as easy to obtain as one might say, and it isn't as overpowered as this item suggests. To obtain Netherite, you have to brave the Nether in the first place, but then you have to have the resources to find Netherite, whether that be your pickaxe, TNT, or beds. And once you get enough Netherite, all it does is make your tools mine a little faster, your weapons hit a little harder, and gives your armor knockback resistance, with the additional buff of improving durability. But in a world with Mending, this durability buff isn't a big deal. And it's nice to have your gear not burn in fire of lava, but good luck getting to the middle of a lava lake in five minutes or less. Netherite is stronger than diamonds, but only by a little.

So either make Netherite even stronger to justify braving a Bastion, one of the most dangerous structures located in arguably the most dangerous dimension, or make the Upgrade easier to find in the first place. Maybe you can obtain it through Piglin bartering as a very rare drop, which gives the player more of a use for all of their gold. I shouldn't have to feel rushed to get Netherite gear now before 1.20 comes out, because I might as well stick with diamond before I raid a Bastion full of Piglins and Brutes for a small upgrade.

This is the only thing that I don't like about the new update.. because of the netherite upgrading template. Hoping this gets changed or nerfed someway, because I doubt my friends who recently have started playing will ever be able to obtain netherite when this gets added.. because piglin bastions are hard to raid.. not to mention the upgrade template isn't guaranteed in every bastion, so potentially it could take a couple more times to find one.. New players will be deterred away from even wanting to get it. But, this is just my opinion. If it's not broke, don't fix it. 😊

You can still remove it, there is still time before the release of the update to remove this feature.

I have great personal distaste for this feature as it takes Bastion Remnants and makes them a forced path of progression. Prior to this you could visit one and it was likely you would make good progress on a hunt for netherite but if this scared you you where able to avoid it entirely, it was a nice reward for having the guts to check out a bastion. Now, you are forced to visit this structure, its not a nice reward for knowing your way around one, its not a trophy you can hold above your friends who where a bit too scared to visit themselves (Possibly encouraging them to give one a shot next time), it is required. You either visit one and then grind the copies mining diamonds, or visit a dozen. Bastions weren't in need of reasons to be visited, even late game it was already worth to check for any lodestones or ancient debris, they even got new loot in this update via their smithing template, the diamond mining option is a massive grind.

The introduction of this will see a lot less people using netherite, not because of the challenge it adds, but from players realising how it is practically a aesthetic upgrade. Players will think of the things they would rather do with the 49 diamonds that are suddenly required and decide to not bother. This addition just feels like a punishment for starting a world and getting netherite prior to 1.20.

    I loathe this idea.

Having armour trims need to be found? That makes sense, but netherite is already a grind to get and now you're adding an extra complication of having to grind further to find enough of a consumable item to upgrade all items and tools. This would be a nightmare in a single-player world but as Minecraft is supposed to be played with friends, attempting to get these items for everyone in a realm is going to go from being a hard slog/grind to being near impossible. That's not making the bastions more necessary, it's making netherite more unnecessary. At the very least, guarantee it will be found in every bastion at least once and allow it to be used more than once.

And yes, I know you can clone them but that still doesn't make it easier.

Add a game rule to let us disable this like you did with phantoms. This sounds pointless and annoying considering netherite is already difficult to get, and this isn't going to stop people from rushing to netherite anyway. People will still xray themselves to netherite within 20 minutes anyway, so I don't see who this is for.

I personally like the concept, however I think their should be some more thought put into it. Some changes I would personally like is...

    • changing the name to be more unique, perhaps the netherite mold or something along those lines
    • perhaps changing the recipe to be more unique from other smithing templates, perhaps 7 magma blocks, 1 diamond and the upgrade, to make it feel almost like your almost glueing the netherite to the diamond armor with some sort of firy adhesive, with a diamond to concentrate it and set its model.
    • maybe changing its texture to a piglin snout, as it adds to the nether vibe a bit more

I agree with everyone that thinks that making netherite harder to get is not a good idea. I already have trouble getting it and I think that those of us that do not want netherite to be harder to get should not be forced into it. I think more people need to speak up against it. The people that live and breathe Minecraft should not get to decide things for us. Those of us that just want to enjoy the game should not be pushed outside of our comfort zones just because some no lifers think we should. I say we say what we truly want and don't want from this game. Please Mojang... Don't force those of us that don't want it to happen... Please.

I understand that the idea is to make obtaining netherite harder. BUT the point of netherite is it won’t burn up in lava! So it begs the question, why make us travel thru lava to get it? I was using netherite to gear up! I mined netherite using fire protection armor if I could get lucky at enchants. Then I upgraded everything I was wearing before traveling thru the nether to find fortresses, bastions, & the crimson/warped biomes! Now I will prob won’t use it at all! If I have to go through lava across the nether to raid a bastion to get this template then its useless to me. If I can survive that I don’t need the armor upgrade! My suggestion is for there to be a chance its in abandoned nether portal loot chests! If I am building a nether portal I often build at the abandoned ones. If I have to change my portal location to get a better biome in the nether, I look for another abandoned portal in the direction I want to move in the overworld. I also use the gold block in them to make a helmet to wear in the nether or the crying obsidian for a respawn anchor. I think this would make players use abandoned portals more!

The upgrade requirements are a terrible change that force a particular playing style and wouldn't even be possible in many world and server configurations for many different reasons.  It's like someone is intentionally trying to ruin the game!

Templates shouldn’t be consumable. Adding a diamond cost at this point is silly. If you’re capable of digging up ancient debris without dying, then diamonds are a snooze fest by comparison. How is it supposed to be making the upgrade more challenging?

On the other hand, raiding a bastion to gain the ability to upgrade is something I’m totally happy with. It gives a progression related purpose to them. Granted given that I’d prefer to use diamonds for decorative blocks, if the template duplication ends up being a thing with any diamond cost, I might just end up ignoring the smithing system altogether removing the purpose of actively seeking out a bastion and worse, wind up feeling like netherite gear is removed with this update.

Netherite gear is nice to have, but I’m already finding that it’s hardly worth going out of my way for given that fire and lava aren’t even that much of a threat. Once you’ve reached the point where you can produce renewable maxed diamond armor reliably, the non-renewable netherite starts to feel like a waste.

Does anyone think that 🤔 ocean monuments should have diamond blocks instead of gold now to help players to get netherite easier . And it will be a reason to explore ocean monuments too 🤔. Idk really ! But i thought this this can be a little help for a regular player to get netherite   . 🤔

I love the idea of making diamonds more useful While giving a reason to explore your world! But I hate how consumable it is. I think adding durability would really make this feature a hit! Adding being able to enchant the template with unbreaking, maybe mending if it took a lot of XP to fix. The ability to upgrade the template- like add another netherite ingot to increase durability/ repair in an anvil or the smithing table! Like elytra.
Even changing the copying recipe- I can’t believe one nether rack is what you need with all those diamonds! Upgrade that to a gold block/netherite/ancient debris ect changes the durability amount!

I strongly disagree with this new upgrade policy. Piglin bastion are not only rare, but hard to navigate. Piglins inflict massive amounts of damage AND knock back, meaning that you kind of need Netherite armor to GET netherite armor. On top of that, you need to get a huge amount of beds, which requires an efficient wool farm, and mass deforestation. And, you must traverse the most dangerous area of the game, and even then, ancient debris is STILL rare. In addition with all that, you also have to have pre-existing diamond equipment, and gold for the ingots. What I’m trying to say is, getting Netherite is already very difficult. We don’t need to make it anymore difficult. Remove the upgrade template, or at Least make it craftable. And multi-use. The single use mechanic makes this all the more lengthy process just for one netherite item.

I think the Netherite Upgrade is too expensive. Please consider to lower the cost for the duplication of template.

It seems good to me because I could duplicate it with diamonds and it makes it more difficult.
but the design does not fit very well, it should be a strange material with a different name but with the same functionality

I like the idea of smithing templates, giving more purpose to the smithing table. Finding them all around the world is also a great idea to get us players moving on an adventure. However, the smithing templates are very rare and too consuming. Being able to only use one smithing template is a huge problem because not only do we have to find bastions, and other structures, we need the luck to find them in chests, making the whole process consuming. One way we could fix this issue is adding durability to these templates.

The trim idea is very interesting.

The netherite upgrade path now using smithing templates does not add anything meaningful or challenging however, as the only bastions that will actually be worth anything are treasure rooms, since they're the only ones that have a guarantee.

I think we should talked about the crafting recipe to duplicate it it should one diamond instead because how the design look on the trims that are in the center instead of out

I do not think there should be an 'upgrade template'. I think it would be sensible to maybe make netherite harder to get in some way, but not like that. Personally, I think it would be better to simply make ancient debris rarer or nether gold less common.

I think that netherite should not require a template. It’s hard enough to get ancient debris as it comes in veins of one or two. Then adding a requirement to raid a bastion on top of that and add a huge amount of rng just feels impossible. It makes me personally not even think of netherite as a survival material but only available in creative.

I understand how this makes Netherite a more unique system than traditionally mining and it forces player progression through places outside their comfort zone for a fitting reward...

... But for multiplayer servers each person would need to find a maximum of 8 Unique Bastions to get all Netherite Armor/Tools - the hoe. And the 10% rate of finding extra in other places is rare enough that you can't count on finding them in places other than the main treasure chest in each Bastion.

To fix this issue and still enforce player discovery, I would have Bastion chests hold a special "item fragment" and when you find 4 of them you can use them to craft a station that can upgrade Diamond -> Netherite the traditional way. That way, it is a permanent reward for exploring x amount of Bastions.

    TLDR;

Keep Smithing Tables as a way to add trims to armor exclusively, much like the Loom is exclusively for creating banners. But have Bastions hold "item fragments" to upgrade the Smithing Table permanently once you get 4 of the fragments to use them to upgrade Diamond Gear the old way. Call it a Bastion Forge, Netherite Smithing Table, etc.
