I am very concerned about Netherite Upgrading requiring a key item that can only be found within Structure generated chests. I feel this will only cause problems within Multiplayer of more dedicated players with more time on their hands getting to Bastions before other players, taking all the Tablets, and closing off access to these upgrades unfairly. Whereas for Singleplayer Worlds, this feature adds nothing. This only slows down the speed at which players gain netherite gear in Singleplayer. Players already are going to want to explore the Nether if they are seeking Netherite Gear, so requiring they find key items within Bastions isn't encouraging new gameplay, it's forcing it instead. This overall does not seem healthy or engaging. It's just slowing down the experience for Singleplayer, and causing risk of people being denied access to Netherite entirely within Multiplayer. The diamond cost is also not an added layer of difficulty, it is just more grind. Anyone can mine seven diamonds. It's not difficult. It's just taking more time to get what we used to be able to get before.

If you really want Netherite to be more expensive, I'd suggest you remove requiring a key item that can be only found in structure generated chests, and focus on making the recipe and process itself. Don't just require one extra RNG item that people are forced to find, add more layers to preparing Debris, Scrap, and Ingots, and up the Ingot cost. This would be healthier for the game I feel.

bastions already had links to netherite, i would visit them early game to feel like i was getting a head and would never pass them up due to their existing unique (pigstep, snout pattern, gilded blackstone) and rare (ancient debris/ netherite) loot, it feels odd to enter a bastion and exit with netherite and something that feels like a weird half netherite

the smithing table has a lot of cosmetic uses now so having netherite along side it is odd, i mean netherite feels more cosmetic than ever considering it has durability like diamond and actually looks good with most trims, it really shouldve been an anvil action from the start

My problem with the netherite upgrade is that, as you need to allready have one to copy it, and  on multiplayer servers, all the bastions within a 1000 blocks would be raided within the first in-game day, new players would have no wayy to actually upgrade their armor to netherite, probably ever. Giving the players who got on the server first, and/or are probably allready better at the game an unfair advantage against newer players. I'd make the item craftable, maybe expensive,  but none the less craftable, or scrap it all together, and instead make the netherite armor be crafted from the netherite ingots instead of being an upgrade of diamond. That way, you could make netherite armor more expensive to craft, wich could even be amplified by tweaking the netherite ingot recipe need more scraps. Maybe this is an other way to slow people down from geting netherite too early in the game. But having to locate and take on a bastion, or multiple ones, possibly thousands of blocks away to get netherite seems unfair towards less experienced players. Also since  netherite crafting has gold in it, it could be seen by piglin as gold armor (maybe just if you have the full set, for ballance).

I personally love this idea because netherite is too easy to get and I think it’s a good thing to make it harder to get

    I have two main thoughts.

The Netherite Upgrade feels a bit out of place in Bastions.

It feels like it'd fit better if it was instead called something like "Ancient scroll" or "Binding instructions," and then have it look like something Piglins would actually write down, like a, well, scroll.

Just having it look like a pouch seems a bit odd.

Also, the crafting recipe feels like it could have more lore to it.  Instead of diamonds or netherrack, why not have things that have been previously shown to be a nether binding agent in it?  Like magma cream or blaze powder.

It'd make more sense because it could be like the "scroll" is instructing you how to bind the netherite to the diamond to make it stronger using the materials instead of just... being a pouch.

Ever since 1.16 netherite has been a worthless armor upgrade with literally no benefits in gameplay, meaningless knockback resistance, a few extra toughness points and that’s it? I’m not against this change or anything it’s actually a great idea but in my opinion netherite deserves a buff because I (like most players) don’t see anything special in it, also the item looks weird and the name is boring why not renaming it to something cooler like “the essence of the nether”? I know this change was made for good reasons but it doesn’t make the game harder whatsoever not even remotely, I see it more like a headache so at least make it worth the grind

I think it's a great idea, but It just seems like Netherite is already overpowered, but I had the idea of Netherite turning into Enderite when you smith a dragon egg, or eye of ender on it.

If Netherite is going to be harder to obtain, it should definitely be more desirable to own as it is already hard as heck to get a full set of armor/tools.

Make Netherite gear act the same towards piglins as gold.  They know what this stuff has to be, they would be intimidated that you somehow managed to get it and leave you alone.

Give it unique enchants, like a lava version of frostwalker.  Or make you immune to environmental hazards like magma blocks and cactus.

Or perhaps the easy way could be taken and just have their durability and strength increased further to just make them that much better than diamond.

And one more thing, the upgrades shouldnt be limited to Bastion loot chests because it'll just become another thing players will hoard in multiplayer and make them impossible to get for others.  They should be a drop from Brutes or possibly something else.  A rare drop, but it'd let other people get them and the recipe for them.

Some say it's not worth it to upgrade to full Netherite set because you need to obtaining upgrading template, which means you need at least 8 or 9 (including hoe) upgrading template for full Netherite set, that will require raiding several Bastion.

Maybe buff the Netherite tier with something like increase despawn time to make it more valuable, maybe go further and make it so Netherite armor can increase despawn time for surrounding item. It can justify the investment require to upgrade to Netherite.

Template might have durability (2 or 3 point of durability), can be enchant or inject with EXP for increase in durability, cannot be repair, multiplying template require full durability point, using template will decrease the durability. This can lower the amount of grind/exploration needed.

An idea to make duplicating upgrade template more interesting would be to create unique way of crafting like using cauldron with blue fire underneath it, maybe put fire resistance portion (easily acquire treading wtih Piglin) + template + diamonds into the cauldron to duplicate the upgrade template. This increase the difficulty in template duplication process but if template can be use multiple time instate of one time consumable, this could work.

Some say Bastion are annoying to raid, full of lava. Maybe add additional option to obtain upgrade template, maybe it can be found on fortress or upgrade template fragment that can be found in fortress and can be craft into upgrade template.

The new upgrade system is "fine" but the Upgrade should be cheaper, is way too expensive to dupe, 7 diamonds? Really? 7 diamonds is unbalanced, make it cheaper like 1 or 3 diamonds

I was perfectly satisfied with how netherite worked since 1.16 and don't appreciate changes that are just to make the game more difficult or more geared toward the grindcore set. We don't all play the game as our full-time job like whatever creators you were watching on YouTube that got netherite on their first in-game day.

While I can live with it being somehow harder to get, I am particularly not thrilled with this idea of requiring stealing items from a bastion to be involved in the progress. I try to be friendly toward the piglins. I don't normally enter bastions until after I'm maxed out on gear and then only to look for the Pigstep record, which is already enough motivation to do that one time on its own. I don't intend to change this because of this going forward. I'll find some other alternative like a datapack instead if this change sticks as it is.

The "Netherite Upgrade" seems indolent and only further complicates things. There is no correlation between the name and the lore of Minecraft. The idea of having trims for armor is great and should be implemented, but the "Netherite Upgrade" doesn't really add to the upgrade process. The trims will encourage exploration and will make it adventurous and rewarding when found, but upgrading tools and armor should be kept to the single Netherite ingot. Upgrading to Netherite should be labor-intensive, and it has been working well since 1.16. It doesn't need to be changed.

I am only happy with this idea if bastion remnants become more common and netherite armor durability is increased.

I like this idea but after reading the lore side of this I don’t like it because it makes no sense why we need some of the materials or how diamonds fit it the recipe or how the piglins get the diamonds to make it

After flying around with the elytra and raiding multiple bastions i havent been able to find any but found 2 trims. i think they should be a little more common. Also netherite requires a diamond set so requiring even more diamonds to copy it seems a little much. I would just give it infinite uses. Maybe brutes could have a chance to drop it?

I think netherite could use several tweaks:

First it needs to be able to be repaired. Either make it so 1 ingot fully repairs it or change the repair material to diamonds

Second i think mending should be removed from villager trades. its supposed to be treasure. Its way to easy to get mending on all your tools so as soon as you get netherite you just have it forever without having to consider reparing it. This way you have to go raid end cities to find mending.

Third bastion remnants should have higher yield of netherite scrap. Raiding them should be a valid alternative to blast mining underground. Either increase the chance in those rooms with 1 chest and 1 double chest or make debris spawn in the walls like gold block do.

I like the mechanic for netherite upgrading, but the netherite upgrade item itself is a little weird from a lore perspective, I feel like it should probably be changed into something that makes a little more sense.

I do not like the fact that we will need a third item to get netherite armor. diamond armor and a netherite ingot are already hard enough to get. I don't want to have to go to a bastion in my hardcore world unless i have at least enchanted diamond armor.

I very much dislike the new templates required for netherite upgrades. It is way too expensive to duplicate the templates. You have to be careful when making an item finite or pseudo finite. If you have to explore a lot for items it wastes lots of memory on chunks you're never going to go back to. Netherite is now an essential part of the game and so it needs a consistency that doesn't involve a ton of exploring.

I think netherite is already fine the way it is. But if you have to increase its difficulty to get, then make it more renewable somehow. You can still have the templates as rewards for exploring but also add a secondary option. Maybe it could be a boss loot reward. A rare drop from a mob. A trade item.

I already very much dislike how elytra are pseudo finite items. Please don't ruin netherite. While I bring that subject up, I think elytra need to be given the same treatment in that they need to be renewable somehow. Again like a boss drop or rare drop etc.

My preferred method, if necessary to keep netherite templates, would be to make it similar to beacons. Make a new mob that only spawns at certain locations. Then make some form of rare drop or boss fight available at those locations. That way it makes it so you want to find at least one of those locations and make a base or farm at them. Like nether fortesses for beacons. Nether Fortess->Wither Skeleton->Wither Skull->Wither->Beacon. Do something like that for the templates. Or.. just remove netherite templates

I like the idea of the upgrade template. Adding another reason to visit bastions is appealing. I don't like the copy recipe.

Getting Netherite is extremely grindy already. "Optimum" netherite mining strategies I see online get pro players like 60-70 ancient debris per hour. Being an amateur, including time spent traveling to the now very distant places on my server that have not been mined out yet, I get more like 20-30 ancient debris in an hour.

I'm on a late game server with farms for just about every useful renewable. If I fall into the void, including time traveling to trading halls, xp farms, etc, I'm already looking at like 2-3 hours of play time to refresh my gear. As a casual player, that could be most of my playtime for a week. The current upgrade template recipe would add another 20-50 minutes grinding through deepslate [agony] for 28-42 non-renewable diamonds, depending on my kit at the time. That makes a feature that benefits my play (I die less often and break blocks faster) less available.

I have builds I want to make and worlds to explore. Making netherite more grindy so that some nerd can flex a bit harder does not make my play more fun.

Instead of the netherite upgrade only being found in bastions. Make it were the netherite upgrade isn't just found in a bastion remnant, but in every structure found in the nether the Nether Fortress, The Bastion Remnants, and Ruined Portals. The change I recommend would make the nether as a whole a part of the games progression not the remnants alone. The reason i say that is because when you think of the nether your mind isn't going to immediately think of bastions, but the nether its self and would you could find there  Plus, it would be a bit more accessible for players and not to complicated to find.

I think the idea was a very good start to a really difficult to solve problem. Netherite is currently a very easy to obtain material, and even easier to put on armour / tools. With this new snapshot, netherite becomes more of a late game thing, which i think is a very good idea and basically everyone can agree that being able to simply grind for a solid hour and have op stuff is kind of making the game progress too fast and makes the things afterwards kind of boring. The idea itself is a very good one and i totally agree, but there are a few problems some players might come across with this new feature if it gets implamented.

first of all, most of the people i know would find it quit hard to have to find a bastion without a guide, or something. (including me, i know im a noob leave me alone xd ) I saw someone saying it would make players have to explore more, and have to go more places than just the stronghold whenever they decide to. I think this is very true, but with strongholds you have ender eyes to follow, and with bastions its basically just luck. On big severs this would especially be a problem considering that structures close to spawn are limited. i sugest making an "end eye" of some sorts for bastions or something. just a thought :)

If you make netherite a bit stronger than diamond it'll make worth a little more however finding all these by chance is very annoying especially when the structure they would be in is already a medium difficulty at least in my opinion

Instead of making a new Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template that requires the player to go into a structure that you either have to guess or hack the location of, it would be better just to make netherite spawn less in the Nether.

The netherite upgrade template should be found with a limit of 1 per bastion and should only be found in bastion treasure chests with a 20 per cent chance of generating in a bastion.

The block used to duplicate the template should be ancient debris instead of netherrack.

Maybe you(Mojang/Minecraft/Microsoft) could make upgrading Diamond Horse Armor to Netherite? I don't think Horse Armor is getting a lot of attention, and I believe horses need Netherite protection as well.

I personally like the idea of making the netherite gear more harder to get, but I have a better idea.

What if there was a eternal flame found in the bastions, that simply just by throwing the netherite gear or ingots into the flame will give that fire resistence effect, and not only that but can also some how be use to make the eyes of ender as well, that way making the end a little harder to reach too.

Little crazy, but it would be cool and unique.

    Thanks for the consideration.
