I think it would be cool if armor trims were adjusted on a per-armor basis, like a durability system. For the tough armor like diamond or netherite it would make sense that the armor trim would take a beating and break, but it seems they should not be consumed for the weaker armor like leather since they break really fast. That way they are still rewarding to find, but allow players to use it more where they see fit without being penalized and only really making it expensive for use cases where it would be for their normal armor to wear. Possibly mid-tier armor could do something like damage the trim, causing it to need repair, or else it would break, allowing for better mid-game customization without such a high cost.

I'm looking forward to the armor trims. There should be the possibility of finding either a "heart" armor trim template or a "Sakura"/Cherry Blossom armor trim template, with-in a Cherry Blossom Village.  The Chestplate' center armor trim should have either a heart or cherry blossom flower in the center. Also, there should also be a way to get pink armor trims as well through some method.

Would love to be able to apply multiple layers of armor trim to the same piece of armor (much like banner patterns, except perhaps with a limit of 2 or 3 trims instead of 6). It would greatly increase the customizability for players and allow for interesting combinations!

As it stands, allowing for only 1 trim per armor piece does not allow for all that much creativity and expression.

I want to suggest that Leather and Golden armor should get a durability buff to something around or above iron when trimmed. Currently, it's far too easy to break those armors, and when they are trimmed, the cost is just too great to rationalize doing it. This wouldn't break the game balance, as the trim for each set alone costs more than a whole set of diamond, which you should get first. It just makes adding trim to those armors far more reasonable, and much harder to destroy, as with <150 durability on each piece, they can break in a few minutes in some situations.

they should make it to where there is a higher variety of materials that can be used to make armor trims (E.G: coal, glowstone, etc.)

Armor trims should glow when combined with glow ink. Not only would it look incredibly cool to have glowing accents on your armor, but this would also add another use for glow ink. (If you won’t add more use for glow ink then how ‘bout we just redo the mob vote?)

Smithing templates would be a lot better if they had durability. having a certain amount of uses on them that can be refilled with diamonds. and not able to fully break and disappear like elytra that can always be repaired. you can also still have the ability to duplicate a template but then can make it even more expensive. like needing two blocks of diamonds, netherite, and eco shards or something just so it still feels rare and special to have a template and you will always have the template but will be earning it to share with a friend too.

Also I would love for the designs to change the shape of the armor. make each piece feel more special and different. at the moment they all look the same with a color line that's still hard to differentiate. but having one template add bigger shoulders or a feather on the helmet and so on would be amazing and give so much more unique ways to customize.

I think it's a pretty common consensus that the trim duplication recipe is a bit on the pricey side, and makes using trims on more common armor not necessarily feel like it's worth the cost. As such my suggestion is to allow other materials to be used to duplicate templates, but only allow the duplicate templates to be used on armor of matching or lesser quality. For example, a duplicate template made using iron ingots could be applied to iron, gold, chainmail or leather armor, but not to diamond or netherite armor. Likewise, using gold ingots would allow the template to be used on gold, chainmail or leather armor, and using leather would only allow it to be used on leather armor. The one exception I feel is that using diamonds should still allow the template to be applied to netherite armor the way it currently does, as no one wants to spend a ton of netherite ingots just to duplicate one template.

In this way players wouldn't have to break the bank to trim their less valuable gear, but there would still be a reasonable cost to doing so for the rare stuff.

I love the idea of adding Customization to armor but I think that the Smithing templates Should cost maybe only 3 diamonds to duplicate as they are not a 100% loot In every chest and the cost of losing your items is now higher. But I love the idea and customization options and colors.

Can you please make it so that gold trims on armour pacify Piglins like gold armour?

Does searching the world for Smithing Templates feel adventurous?

    • Armor trims being exclusive to specific biomes is one of the only truly adventurous things being added to Minecraft.  By definition, it is largely inaccessible yet coveted, it's unique and requires exploration. It requires adventure. This is great. The world needs reasons to be explored at the micro level. Chests filled with bread and ingots are extremely underwhelming and most loot can be found naturally or boringly, through villager trading. The only thing quite like armor trims are jukebox discs, horse armor. and the elytra.
    • I would greatly encourage the Minecraft team to continue to add things like this, where there is no game function or purpose and is purely to be stumbled across, such as animal variants, unique paintings, make some enchantment books unique, etc.

Some armour trim should be rarer in order to encourage exploration. It is a good thing that they require 7 diamonds to be duplicated.

What if, when you get the achievement 'Hero of The Village' you get a smithing template of an emerald?

It would be nice if the trim had a purpose, such as allowing gold trim to keep piglins from getting mad at you, as others have suggested.  It is extremely annoying to work hard for resources and be unable to use parts of it because you need a certain type of another armor. Like gold for the nether or chest plates and elytra. Isn’t it enough to mine for hours to get diamonds and netherite? Or beat the ender dragon? Not to constantly have to don or doff it whenever we need to travel?  Please give us a break, let us actually use the armor we worked for.

This would be a great use for the Echo Shard! Add it as a color it's basically useless and a sculk color would look  awesome.

i think you need to be able to put arlor trims on shields, horse armor and elyrta's, and to find ability's for them instead just being cosmetic, i have a few exaples/idea's!

redstone makes you golw red in the dark and if you walk over redstone dust or pistons, you will activate them

copper makes it so you allways have channeling on your trident(if you have one), the more you get hit by lightning, the more channeling it puts on your trident

gold makes piglins peacefull to you (like the armor) but also make it so they give better loot with the trims and netherite armor(maybe only in full set)

emerald gives you something like a hero of the village effect

diamond gives you positive status effects, like strength

lapis makes enchantments are stronger than normal, makes thorns 2, to thorns 4, it multiplies

amethist gives you thorns, since they're spiky, but also when others get close they get dameged

quarts, gives a lot armor points, since it's very hard

iron gives more armor points, i couldn't think of anything esle

    netherite makes you fire resistent

There’s something off about the crafting recipe to copy these smithing templates,

in one of your own videos on the official Minecraft YouTube channel you said the importance of making recipes make sense, when I looked at these smithing templates they clearly show a material surrounding a diamond or blue interior I was surprised that the crafting recipe was the complete opposite with diamonds on the outside, and the material on the inside.

I think if you were to reversed the crafting recipes, having one diamond on the inside, and then the 7 blocks of material on the outside it would make it cheaper, make more sense and be more interesting (more interesting because you need to collect a specific block instead of just diamonds)
So that’s my proposed solution for the problems with The smithing templates, but apart from that, I think the arm trims are a great way to let people express themselves and I can’t wait to try them out, Good job Mojang. Good job.

I think armor templates shouldn't be duplicated, just think about it: you go to a temple/dungeon that contains an armor template and once you have it you don't feel the the need to explore more because easily you can duplicate them, the same with the netherite upgrade, once you have a template upgrade, you duplicate it and you don't need to explore anymore, I feel like it loses prestige, It's better that the only way to find these tablets is to explore, because when you see a player with all the armor decorated or full netherite, you don't think they duplicated it, You think that player was looking for them for a long time and now it is his gratifying reward

The cost of copying templates should be cheaper (3-4 diamonds) in my opinion, or the craft should give more (3 maybe) templates. This trim system is amazing, but it could be extended to horse armors, saddles, tools and maybe elytras in the future, with different templates. Also, there could be more functional templates apart from the netherite one, for example a template that gives the armor more durability based on the added material. It could reinforce gold armor for nether exploration and leather armor for cosmetics, which both break really easily, even with unbreaking and mending

    New armor upgrades
First of all - currently added trims will not be changed, the are still cosmetic only!

I suggesting to add a few more armor upgrades that should give a little buff or even uniqe ability.
You can aplly onle 1 upgrade per armor piece.

But yoy may ask, for what? So, i answer. There is some nice diversty in weapons, you can fight with sword, axe, triden, bow, crossbow - anything you want, and there is no such diversity in armor, only straight line from lether to netherite. I think a lot of players can confirm that after a few month on server all the players already wears netherite armor with pretty similar enchansments. So this upgardes will add some uniqueness.

    Main parameters:
    1. Upgrades should give some minor buffs like "+5% movment speed", "+2 hp" and so on, or some unique abillity (on developers choise)
    2. Upragdes provides no visual changes on armor.
    3. Only 1 upgrade per armor pice.
    4. Maybe it's can be applied only on netherite armor? Not sure.
    5. Applying using smithing table.

    Thans for your attention)

If this is purely cosmetic you should and more purpose to it if you play on a Minecraft server it will be quickly taken and sold you shroud make it cheaper and easier to get or add effects to the trims it would make it have more uses other than looks think about it what dose the rest of the community think about it

I think that the armor trims are a great way for the community to express themselves. But the netherite upgrade is far too hard to obtain, in my opinion. I don't recommend you to remove it, I only think that if the netherite upgrade would be used infinitely after found, like the banner patterns, it would be a lot better, and people who don't like to venture around the world a lot like me won't have to be forced to do it if they want better armor. And, the texture for the netherite upgrade looks like you've slapped out a machine upgrade from a tech mod and added it into the base game. I think it would be much nicer if it was a bit more minecraft-y.

I think the armour trims should be more distinct from each other. Also, you could be able to make your own trims, a bit like banners?
