Fishing can rarely return lost items

Whilst the player is fishing, there should be a tiny chance to recover a named piece of gear that had despawned. The items could return with less durability as if worn by a mob. you wouldn’t be able to recover every item lost however. When a named item despawns there could be a 5% chance to be added a list of 10 lost items, meaning once you lose 10 you have to find some for any more to be added. This list wouldn't be visible to the player.
