The lightning shield would give another use to copper, being an upgrade to the normal shield via the use of copper in a smithing table. When the player holds the lightning shield in their hand or offhand, it would act like a lightning rod, striking the player with lightning when there is any, taking priority over any lightning rod in the area. This lightning would still wound the player, unless they block it with the shield, "charging" it.
This "charge" would make the players next melee attack have lightning strike the player or mob they attacked. It would also apply to tridents with the channeling enchantment when thrown, allowing lightning to strike twice in the same spot. The charge would last for an amount of time before being lost and requiring the player to charge it again.
To summarize, the lightning shield would give a new use the copper and the smithing table, buff tridents, and allow lightning to be transported for a limited amount of time outside of rain.
