After some time puzzeling trying to figure out wether the center part of the Ancient cities were a portal i found out about some issues regarding the warden.
The center piece 'intentionally' is not generated flat with the reinforced deepslate forming a 'pool' with sculk catalysts and 'sensors' forming a sacrificial pool. Thus indicating something has gone wrong with the generation as do the piece's of the puzzle seem to fit a 'flat bath' where you sacrifice sheep to harvest 'skulk' from (suggestion would be 'air blocks') for experience rather than 'sacrificing' the entire list of replacable_blocks to become 'any air block' in shafts and vents and keeping the spawning of the warden limited to the center where it would have spawned from inside the blood-pool of reinforced deepslate.
Thus to open the 'redstone contraption' underneath the portal requires you to move the Warden or to spawn the warden in that same pool in the center "face" of the ancient city and make it wander or look at itself. The redstone light activate's and the gate opens.
If you are listening well to the shrieker sounds the indication is the same.
The Ancient city matches a Mayan architecture indicating the same 'sacrificial rite's' to be exploited.,
I wonder if it is intentionally left.
