Mojang has very clearly stated that there will be no Coastal Redwoods in Minecraft. However, there are two other kinds of Redwoods which are less famous. the Giant Sequoia (I strongly recommend finding the post for that one) and the Dawn Redwood. Dawn Redwoods were thought to be an extinct, ancient American tree, until someone discovered one in the forests of China. Perhaps they will fit the theme of the sniffer? In the wild they can grow to be roughly 40 meters(40 blocks) tall, not too tall for world generation, but still taller than the giant spruces and jungle trees. These could generate in a rare biome that can spawn snowy or cold near ordinary taigas, similarly to how bamboo jungles spawn next to jungles (though this would be more rare) As these Redwoods grow quickly, they may also be the best candidate for sustainable redwoods in Minecraft, as it is actually realistically possible to grow one from a sapling (or cone, anyone?) and use it for lumber or for decoration. I think it could be very well-received to add more East Asian flora to the game, and maybe even boost sales for Minecraft China?... In addition, this could add gray-colored planks, which would be very interesting. I would be very excited to see how the community would respond to this wonderful tree being added to Minecraft. Thank you for considering my suggestion!
