Map markers/naming terrain

What if you could name the places you’ve been in Minecraft? Like that village you ran across the other day and wanted to name it but all you can do is make signs. Wouldn’t it be cool to be able to put markers on maps of where certain things are. Being able to customize maps would be really interesting and it can add a lot of attachment to players and their own worlds! Possibly another table used to place maps down and draw out markers. Like an item frame but have it as the tabletop and with dye and possibly honey you can make colored ink to add markers to your map. Thoughts?
