I think the Beacon deserves a bit of a revamp. One aspect I always thought was weird was how you have to power the Beacon with an additional piece of ore despite the fact that it's sitting on top of, up to, 164 blocks.
Personally I think it would be more interesting if you power the Beacon using potion brewing materials. If you want certain Beacon Powers, you'd need the right brewing materials.
The main issue with this idea is that there's no Resistance Potions or Haste Potions, so they don't have corresponding materials. We could just use the Turtle Shell and the Heart of the Sea for these two. The Turtle Shell can be used for the Turtle Master Potion, which has Resistance as one of its effects, and the Heart of the Sea is used to make the Conduit which gives the you Haste, though only in the water.
To upgrade the Beacon Powers, you'd need to use Glowstone Dust, just like a regular potion.
However, I still like how building the Beacon's pyramid bigger changes what powers you have access to, so to compliment the idea of using brewing ingredients, the Beacon's pyramid size will instead change how many brewing ingredients you can use.
Each Pyramid Level gives you a slot for a new brewing material. One of those slots could be exclusively for Glowstone to upgrade one of the Beacon Powers.
With this new system, it would be a lot easier to add new Beacon Powers (if we ever get more) without having to change the UI every time.
