Minecraft already has 15 colours, but why not more? Allowing players to mix different colour dyes would allow for so much more creativity, especially if these dyes were applied to blocks.
Much like fireworks, there would be a lot of combinations, especially with my idea of having 5 different stages (e.g: red > red 4, yellow 1 > red 3, yellow 2 > red 2, yellow 3 > red1, yellow 4 > yellow). However, think it would be better if the dye item was simply called dye, but the text displayed its colour, and when you hover over in in your inventory, chest, crafting table etc, it shows the different colours it has in tags, sort of like enchantments.
These dyes should also be able to be applied to blocks like banners, wool, concrete and concrete powder, terracotta and glazed terracotta, glass and glass panes, beds, shulker boxes and leather armour. However, these custom-coloured blocks shouldn't be added into the creative inventory, that would take up far too much space. Instead, even creative mode players will have to craft them, or another way to not take up too much space is to add them in to the creative inventory, but you can't access them until you search for it (you'd HAVE to search for it though, they wouldn't show up in that section).
