Currently the effects between blindness and darkness are pretty similar core mechanically, both restricting player vision to a smaller radius, however I think a little more could be done to make them more interesting.
Starting with Blindness: I think it's mostly fine as it currently, restricting vision to ~5 blocks and disabling sprinting, however I do think it could benefit from some visual transition (similar to the effect Darkness has where the darkness quickly draws in and surrounds the player).
As for Darkness: this is the effect I believe could be reworked to be more interesting, as currently it restricts vision to ~14 blocks and has a neat pulsating visual, making it, mechanically, a less penalizing version of Blindness. Instead, my idea would be to have Darkness make dark areas more extreme, making places like unlit caves or the surface at night almost completely black. However, this effect would not darken light itself (except while pulsing), so the surface during the day or a pool of lava would remain sufficiently bright.
