There should be a grace period introduced when you first start a brand new world. The first two or three days, there wouldn't be any hostile mobs spawning, it would give new players and those wanting to play privately with friends, an opportunity to get started without worrying about getting killed multiple times. This would only be in easy mode, and you could have the option to disable it in world settings when first generating one. I'd be heartbroken to hear that someone quit because they kept getting killed early on.
