The new chiseled bookshelf doesn't match the old bookshelves at all.
The colors are all different. Why two kinds of teal, green and blue? Why the weird pink and brown? It makes them stand out even in the corner of your eye. It's so out of place that it's hard to use them in builds.
The books are also way too thick. It's to the point where they look less like books and more like strange soup cans with that shading. Imagine taking one out and having it be thicker than a big brick in your hand.
I suggest using existing colors instead and limiting new colors to substantially different ones that aren't too bleak. Keeping the purple and gold for example would still allow players to quickly identify what bookshelves can be interacted with.
The thickness of the books is tricky to solve, but I would love it if each bookshelf stored 8 books instead of 6. This would allow slimming the books by one pixel, allowing them to actually look like books. Higher numbers make it more tedious to insert and remove books, so 8 feels like a good compromise.
All of this would make chiseled bookshelves viable in builds together with the old bookshelves. This will be important if we want to make secret doors on Java Edition since chiseled bookshelves cannot be moved by pistons.
