The daylight block is the cousin to the light block, however, instead of being a set light value, the daylight block instead makes the game ignore any opaque blocks above it, allowing the daylight cycle of light to get through solid blocks. Of course, it is only given by commands like the light block, and the next opaque block with block it again, but this can have many build applications. Like the light block, holding it with show a Sunshine particle to break it.
For example:
- Caves with a day night cycle
- Indoor morning lighting
- consistent lighting in areas that would normally be too dark
- Better lit large temples/libraries/churches
- Cover the sky with blocks to prevent rain but still have light
- Obstructing the sky without having shadows below
- Making cloud cities that don't have shadows
- etc
