Here is my idea of how gloves could be added into Minecraft.
Obviously they should be realistic and not overpowered. I've seen a fairly popular suggestion that gloves could add attack damage to whatever tool the player is using. Contrary to that, I think the gloves' effects should be negated by the use of a different tool. The crafting recipe should consist of two of a base material (leather or iron). The gloves could then be upgraded with additional rare ores at an anvil (only for iron base). Like I said, the gloves should not take effect if the player is holding any tool in his hand. Here's how I see their usability in tier.
Basic leather gloves: can mine top snow for snowballs, adds no damage
Basic iron gloves: same mining capabilities as a wooden pickaxe minus speed, adds 1 damage to hand
Diamond augmented gloves: same mining capabilities as an iron pickaxe minus speed, adds 2 damage to hand
Netherite augmented gloves: same mining capabilities as a diamond pickaxe minus speed, adds 3 damage to hand
Gloves can be taken to a grindstone to retrieve augmentated materials and remove enchantments. Maximum haste enchantment should not exceed the mining speed of an unenchanded diamond pickaxe. Acceptable enchantments include: Haste, (definitely not silk touch), Knockback, Unbreaking, Mending.
Maybe golden augmented gloves can accept more enchantments such as Fire Aspect, Smite, and Bane of Arthropods. Remember, the goal is to better equip bare hands and not overthrow any real tools.
