Phantom Membrane Buff

Through the years, we the players, have wondered; what else does the phantom membrane do? I am proposing the idea that there should be more crafting receptors for the membrane, along with a different, more rare phantom drop? I just think that this is a fun idea, and it would make Minecraft more Minecraft-ier by giving more crafting receptors for an already useless early-game mob.
