This would make hanging signs unique along with having bigger text.

I want a solution that is similar to a book with two pages where the second page has a button to copy and one button to mirror, but then the 2nd page is editable independently or after pressing the copy/mirror buttons. This would solve the problem of being able to use arrows, but also allow for hello/goodbye type usage.

In searching for this suggestion, I also found a suggestion to allow for double hanging signs by shift clicking similar to chests. The double-wide hanging signs would allow more characters per line, naturally. That'd also be awesome.

Another common request is to be able to place items instead of text. For example, a fish shop could just have a fish on a sign. Personally I prefer the trigger if_invisible (statues) datapack for item frames, but itd be a great Easter egg or April fool's day to place a fish on a hanging sign on a wall and it'd turn into the singing fish novelty item "As-Seen-On-TV" .

I absolutely agree with this. Like it's a hanging sign either let us write two different things on the two sides or just one text on both sides. Also for the two different texts I think you should be able to press the left or right key (maybe with another key) and that will be able to change the sides while typing or just click an arrow that will be added, but for controller users should probably be the bumpers or triggers of the controller.

or it could have different text each side, so if you wanted to have it double sided, you could.

Totally, and/or should be able to use them like frame and add an item on it! Even if it's on 1 side... Maybe  more little version, on the left side of the sign... We could have proper shop sign! Text+item!

Regarding different text on both sides. I think this should work for regular signs as well. The way to implement would be that you can place the sign first without being prompted to enter text, and then right clicking on the side sign you want the text to appear would open the text prompt. This would improve the experience of decorating with signs in a couple ways: One is when placing many signs without text (ie. a wooden decorative border, stopping water flow, etc.) you wouldn't get the annoying enter-sign-text sign prompt. Another improvement would be editing signs without having to break the sign (especially useful with dyed/glowing text signs).

This is esential, especially if you have the sign hanging out from a wall, when this feature was first announced i was ecstatic to use it for medical shop signs, but because its only on one side, it makes it kind of redundant, hope Mojang see this

Maybe you could make it so, that after you've written the sign, you can rigth-click on the back of it with an ink sac, to make the text from the front appear on the back. This would be a simple and vanilla-style way of letting the player choose if they want it double sided or not

This idea will make the item unique, and I can think of ways players could use it in their builds.

Or maybe make all signs have text on both sides, but create a way to remove text from a side you selected. Like, for example, you use an axe to strip all text from one side.

Or you could right click the back of it to add text to the back of it

Honestly, this should be a feature.  Maybe you can use a stick on the sign to make it not do this, then an axe to remove the stick.

I really think this would improve the look of hanging signs for builds, but there is a problem.

If players write a direction arrow on a hanging sign, like --->

It would end up appearing on the back of the sign pointing in the opposite direction, which would be confusing.

Yes. Just yes. When I tried out the update it made me mad that we couldn't see the sign text from the back. I was just wanting to make a hot dog stand!!

I think it should be one side by default. But also be able to edit the other side to add text to it. So you can have it single sided or double sided.

why is this still here?? it was clearly added in the last update, so why does a post a year old still in this? and why never became under review or added????
