Instead of adding new blocks every update, and using these blocks to improve upon old features and make new features, why not use existing blocks and features to improve existing features, and use existing blocks and features to make new ones? For example, you could create a dungeon update simply by making dungeons more complex. You could create a new structure with new things to do without adding new blocks. There are so many things that could have so many uses, that haven't been used because new blocks instead replace it. While most new blocks are good, using existing things should be considered to make new and upgraded features. It could decrease development time, and it could make things not have to be so much more complex. Using uncommon/unused items instead of creating new ones would be more useful than creating new ones. There are countless ways (that I can't immediately think of) that using existing features instead of making new ones to make new things, would work well.
TL;DR use existing concepts to expand upon and create new features, instead of adding new blocks and features all the time with unnecessary complexity
