With Agnes encouraging fans to help Mojang shape the upcoming 1.20 update, I've been thinking of additions to the game that could bring more life to our worlds, and enable better storytelling. The idea shard in this post is for wind chimes!
Wind chimes would be an ambient and decorative placeable item that hangs down from a block or chain. The crafting recipe would be a chain in the middle top, followed by three glass panes of the same color in the middle row, and then an amethyst shard in the bottom middle slot. The crafting recipe would permit the player to make wind chime sets of all colors (i.e., red wind chimes, blue, etc.).
I envision the wind chimes to gently sway back and forth, with an animated texture. They would produce a typical, gentle chime that could get louder/faster depending on the weather. Also, due to containing an amethyst crystal, they could also emit a soft glow. Finally, it would be cool if they gave the impression of casting light on nearby blocks, maybe in the form of slow-moving light particles across block surfaces.
I think wind chimes could make for an excellent and simple decorative block, that also fits with the update theme of Storytelling, Immersion, and Expression. Upvote if you'd like to see wind chimes in Minecraft 1.20!
