Chiseled Bookshelf Tweaks: Inventory, Placement, & Variation

The new Chiseled Bookshelf is a lovely and welcome feature to the game, but I think there are a few missed opportunities that would still work in the vanilla game.

First, placing books should be more customizable. As of right now, the chiseled bookshelf has limitation to where books are placed, from only left to right, and removing them right to left. 

A Chiseled Bookshelf inventory UI would be a good addition to the shelf, allowing players to customize which books go where. As well, it may lead to more possibilities with Redstone.

Secondly, finding what books you have put in should be easier. From a texture standpoint, there is an opportunity to have different book types having different and consistent colors. For example, Written books could be that red-ish brown color, while enchanted books could be more purple, have a red ribbon, and gold clasp. Normal books could fill up the normal variation.

Finally, for the sake of consistency, the shelf might be better with 8 slots compared to 6. Makes it more consistent with Minecraft's overall counting system, following multiples of 4.

  I was just about to post the exact same suggestion, I agree with everything.
  
  A GUI should to be added and the books should appear corresponding to which slot the book is in.
  
  Also your idea that types of books being different color is better than I wanted to go with, I wanted to suggest books to be dyed. If we would only use the 6 colors I could see it like this.
  -Normal Books: Green
  -Book ans Quills: Orange
  -Signed Written books: Red
  -Armor Enchantments: Purple (Protection, Feather Falling etc)
  -Weapon and Tool Enchantments: Blue (Efficency, Sweeping Edge, Knockback, Flame, Charge etc)
  -Universal Enchantments: Cyan (Mending, Unbreaking, Curse of Vanishing)
  
  In any case I agree that the displayed color should depend on the book, whenever its the type or a dye, that way people can have orginized pretty libraries, like a shelf with full of red books or full of green books, it would a lot better for decoration.

  As a mobile player, I also want to place book in any slot I want and not just from left to right (even if I need more precision). However, left to right placement could be keept if you interact with any other side of the chiseled bookshelf
