We have created this frequently asked question page about the Feedback Website. If you haven't been here in a while and this is your first visit to the post-May 2018 feedback site, start here. Topics here cover:
Our feedback site is based on a system of trust and accountability. In order to do this, we require users to log in with an account. You need to use a Microsoft based email account in order to log in.
Why do I need an account?
Here are the things you can always do without having to log in:
- You can always use search, it is the box above "give feedback" on the right side of the screen.
- You can read posts!
- You can report a link, or an issue with logging in.
You need to log in to do these things:
- In order to vote on an idea, you need an account. This keeps anonymous users from spamming votes.
- In order to make a comment on a feedback idea or post a new one, you must register.
What are the tags? Can I add them to my own post?
You can read about those here. Short answer: No, these are added by the team.
Where are fancy headers? I used to be able to do this.
Headings and paragraph settings were removed in August 2018. A number of community members were using this feature in bad ways and caused it to be removed (it takes a few bad apples to spoil it for everyone).
How can I suggest something that's missing?
We're very open to new ideas over in our Website category, although we admit that some things may not be possible technically due to software limitations. It never hurts to suggest something but please look through the category first!
We appreciate everyone's contribution to the feedback site. The Minecraft team continues to be inspired by your thoughtful and intelligent feedback.
Why did you change my title?
If we've changed your post title, it is to make it easier for people to find. We will continue to make threads easier to find. That is our job. Please respect this effort.
What is "pending approval"?
If a comment has fallen into our "pending approval" queue, one of the following things may have happened:
- Your post likely triggered our filter.
- Our filters are pretty tough on image and link posting due to some naughty folks.
- You attempted to post too many things in a short amount of time. That's not us, that's the software trying to keep bots away.
- You edited your post and added a picture or a video.
Chances are everything's fine, it just has to be looked at by your community team. They work regular business hours, so this delay can be either very short, possibly overnight, or a weekend. Any time the Microsoft offices are closed, approval may slow down. Thanks for being patient as we keep the bots from taking over.
My post was on the site and then fell into the moderation queue. Where is it?
If a post falls into the moderation queue it is still looked at by staff (who are human) who read everything, and if it is rejected at that point, it disappears.
My post was on the site for a while and got removed.
As part of our ongoing cleanup of similar threads and duplicate ideas, we are making efforts to keep things together as much as possible. We appreciate your understanding and support with our efforts.
Another way posts get removed is if they are deemed to fall under "previously considered feedback". That's actually good news, that means the team talked about the idea (and maybe even your post), decided it wasn't going to happen or was "highly unlikely", and you can focus on your other cool ideas.
I disagree with your decision about my post!
Hey, we are real people with super big hearts and only the best intentions! That means you can contact us via the feedback button and the "leave us a message" after you've entered a search term (we suggest "feedback"). You can always just ask us what's up. If we make a mistake, we're going to be the first to admit it.
But at that point, our decision is final.
I have a super long post and you removed it. Can you get my text back so I can put it somewhere else?
I think your filter needs improvement.
We're the first to agree with you. But it's a work in progress, much like the website!
How do I post? How do I edit my post? Do you have posting tips that aren't covered in Creating Great Feedback?
Yes, more technical "nuts and bolts" questions about posting are covered here.
This person posted some content that offends me/they copied my post.
We've created a form for this - we have one form, each option goes to a specific community member who can best address your issue. Check out the instructions here.
Can you tell me the team's thoughts on spam and suspensions/bans?
We want to help create the best site possible for first of all, you, and at the same time, for our team. We have a no-tolerance policy on spam, personal attacks, attempts to get around suspensions and severe breaks with the Posting Guidelines.
I need support! My game is broken!
