Chiseled bookshelves should find in stronghold libraries

Every slot in the chiseled bookshelf could output a different redstone strength so that players could make secret entrances wherein the player would create a redstone line at the specific redstone strength, so that it would only send a signal if you took a book out of that specific slot.

Actually, Mojang can introduce some uncraftable items, the players cannot craft them until they got a recipe book for that (knowledge books, the book with a green cover), this should work like when the limitedCrafting gamerule is on.

Naturally generated chiseled bookshelves could contain the recipe book for unlocking the recipe. Maybe these new bookshelves can be found in prospective archaeological sites?

The existing items can also have "acquired crafting recipes", like tridents and name tags, etc.

Hovering over a book on the bookshelf should display a tag with the name of the book so you can figure out which one you want to pull

    Primary Idea:

    • Expand the region that the enchanting table can accept power from bookshelves, to allow for hugely increased space for self-expression with the new chiseled bookshelves, among other decorative things.

    Primary Goal:

    • allow the player to have more freedom of self-expression through creative arrangement of enchanting setups to integrate more aesthetically into builds without compromising function of full-power setups

    Current System Issues:

    • bookshelves can only be placed along a set ring along the perimeter of a 5x5x2 space to power up an enchanting table-- a lack of space discourages mixing in the use of chiseled bookshelves that are meant to be an extension to player self-expression

    Proposed New System:

    • use a 7x7x3 or 7x7x4 space centered on the enchanting table, where bookshelves can be anywhere in the 5x5 or 7x7 perimeter to power up the table

    Further Notes:
Under this new system, chiseled bookshelves do not necessarily need to be made to be able power up the enchanting table, but it can be an option.  There may be some concerns expressed about how doing so might render the old bookshelves more obsolete, being worth up to 6 books contribution to the enchanting table power, compared to the standard bookshelf being 3 books.  However, the primary focus should be self-expression, allowing more ways to get creative with the new chiseled bookshelves, creating more beautiful, working enchanting setups that are simply not possible with the rather limiting current system.

My only main suggestion is that you should be able to dye books, which would change the color of them on the chiseled book shelf.

As this may be too hard for some computers, you could have a setting that sets all chiseled book shelves to a default texture.

How does everyone feel about being able to store music discs in the chiseled bookshelf? Personally, I would love it

Since people might use this to display images with the different colored books, what if you could dye each individual book a different instead of showing the same color in the same spot every time. It could also help Survival players locate specific books faster (like which one is a specific enchantment, or which one is a written message, etc.) Overall, it is pretty cool, though, and I think this would further the creativity side of things with them. Pls upvote

this adds variation to the bookshelves we have now, but i really think we should also have different bookshelf types (spruce, dark oak, etc.)

They're neat but I would love to be able to dye book covers to make books distinctive on the shelf.

    I'm super exited for this!

However, I cant use this in my custom map for decoration because the player can take out the books and that makes it scuffed.

I would like a locked blockstate that map makers could use which lets them specify that the chiseled bookshelf can't be interacted with.

Making the blockstate un-right-clickable would further improve players experience with it.

If you try to copy a chiseled bookshelf with ctrl+pick block the nbt data is saved, but not the visuals. For example if you put a written book in chiseled bookshelf it shows up visually, but when you copy that same block and place it down it still has the book in it but not the visual.

This is absolutely amazing and I think a lot of people agree this is a good move.

I agree with a lot of other people here about a few things that seem like no brainers like dispensers being able to fill bookshelves and bookshelves having some way of accessing their inventory for better access.

That all being said a lot of users have brought up that this not presents and interesting and rather exciting precedence. We dont need regular bookshelves anymore. please really consider removing them.

Identical (nonstackable) books should stack when put in a bookshelf instead of only having 6 books

Maybe make them able to be found in stronghold libraries, having one/two enchanted books in there, instead of finding enchanted books in chests.

It bothers me that the books don’t touch and aren’t propped up. I mean, if they were all pushed to one side it would be better. Also, why not add where enchanted books still have the glint?

Not as functional as a chest, but it would be great for a library with borrowable books!

    Suggestion: Enchanted book textures

It would be nice if enchanted books had individual textures, just like potions, that would make it easier to identify them if you have a lot of them in a chest, for example. It would also just look cool if, for example, the Fire Aspect book was a red, burning book, or the Frostwalker enchantment was a frozen book, etc.

There is too little difference between normal bookshelves and the chiselled variant. 2 distinct crafting recipes with different mechanics with similar visuals, yet different usages. How about redirecting the crafting recipe of the normal bookshelf so that the empty version is crafted before being filled manually/ automatically filled by crafting table, giving us the filled bookshelf.

I loved the addition of this block to the game. It was something players had been waiting for for years. I think it would be great if it was also possible to color the books and put them on these new shelves, corresponding to the new colors

books are pretty much indistinguishable in these shelves, so make it so that when you hover over a book in the bookshelf, the name of the item is shown like when you put a named item into an item frame

This bookshelf would benefit greatly if signed books could be dyed, or if each enchantment book that has a single enchantment have a particular color. There is a lot of potential in this feature. Even adding symbols to the spines of enchanted books and their covers, up to a maximum of the first 3 enchantments on the book.

The only thing I find missing in this awesome block is some interaction with the enchanting table, and there are some good comments on what could be done to show some love.

-Enchanted books in chiseled shelves change the random generation, meaning for every max enchantment book on a shelf increases the odds of that higher level spell being selected. This would also be a way to add treasure enchants to random enchanting. There are 32 spaces around a table. It takes 15 shelves to achieve max power with 17 for chiseled shelves/entrance/decor. With 33 Enchants available at 6 slots per chiseled a max of 102 Enchanted books could be used to give players some control of enchanting. And makes a purpose to grind enchanting books for better returns.

-Increasing the Max Level for spells is a popular idea but I get it could present balance issues. It would be neat to have max levels be a world-generation option. As well as disabling Enchants allowed.
