Swords For Fighting, Axes for Trees

This way might be less realistic (for bedrock), but it's not like blocks float in real life. Or lighting a ring of obsidian on fire makes a portal. Or bedrock being indestructible (except for powdered snow). Or only being able to sleep at night. Or, well, you get the point, right? It just makes swords useless. Swords are for fighting. Axes are for trees. I do not remember being a tree.

    Tools can be used for multiple things where possible, despite its intended use. This applies to anything even in the real world. It's better to have versatility.

    People have used axes as weapons for centuries, and they are more force-based where swords are more slashing-based, so making axes a weapon makes sense
