    Phantoms could certainly use a behavioural rework, they were not designed well. Maybe they could only spawn during certain moon phases instead of punishment for not sleeping enough? There's no real reason to force players to sleep all the time. And they could spawn in groups of random numbers every certain moon phase.

    At first, I was hating the phantom, but I understood recently the phantom itself isn't the problem. The problem is the insomnia feature that oblige peoples to sleep every 3 days, but it's annoying, stupid and useless.

    I'm playing minecraft since beta 1.2, and monsters can be annoying at night, but if you wanna enjoy night outside, you have to enlight perfectly your area to be safe, in calm. Beta 1.3 added bed, to pass the night if it annoye us, it's optional. It became also a way to fix a spawn point.

    Now imagine, you prepared your ground for a big building and don't want to be interupted. You enlightened  to prevent mob spaning and not be annoyed, and also to not have to run to your bed, because you don't want to be interupted. Now, you have no mobs that spawn, but today, you have 2-3 flying things that come from nowhere, you can't prevent them from spawning, a waste of time to kill, you can't ignore them, and you must do something that was optional to make them leave you alone. That's so stupid ! where is interest in that case ? ! it goes against minecraft rules ! why keep this ? ! knowing peoples hate this ?

    My solution : no need to rework the phantom, but just give up this stupid useless idea to oblige players to sleep without any benefits in return, and change the way to get insomnia to make it optional (like killing an unusual cursed mob ), phantoms must be bonus and optional content, it don't have to affect players that didn't want this mob.
