This would be a beacon that could be placed in any orientation. Rather than being a buff for a small area, this beacon would be a redstone component. It would have a red beam that could extend up to 15 blocks or until it hit a block, and would have the property of activating redstone lamps its beam contacts. Another cool idea might be making this the only way of deactivating redstone blocks. This would allow many circuits to be compacted, and even open up some new possibilites, such as making lamp displays with 1-block pixels and direct downward power.
It would be crafted like the beacon, but with more generic redstone items. For the centerpiece, I'm thinking either redstone dust, nether quartz, or amethyst instead of the nether crystal. Instead of obsidian, smooth stone could be used.
I do not think this is overpowered, because it doesn't interact with all the different redstone systems as simply as redstone dust. It's not really wireless redstone, because the space you're using needs to be unobstructed or else it won't pass. It's not faster than redstone dust, because it has the same range and takes at least a tick and three blocks of space for the signal to be renewed. So, it doesn't replace sculk sensors or redstone dust.
