I found out that Allay's cannot pick up items if the Mob Griefing option is off, which I found odd since Allay's does not obstruct the world except for items, which, if you have noticed, they only are active based on the player's actions. I do not understand why they have that restriction. Many players with mob griefing off for various reasons would like to use Allays. However, that restriction makes them useless to use since they cannot pick up items due to the "interacting with the environment" technicality. I feel that the Allay should be able to collect items regardless of the mob griefing option since the items being picked up are based on what the player gives them. If they get annoying for the player, remove the item from their hand.
Allay's only pick up items the player gives them and return them to either the player or a noteblock. They do not disturb any environments in the world since they are based on player functionality and not the mob's functionality. Endermen and Sheep are examples of mob griefing since they actively interact with the environment, including Withers, Ender Dragons, and Creepers. Those mobs change the environment in some way. Allay's do not actively change the environment but only interact with it when necessary and under the player's command. It makes it more inconvenient for players with mob griefing off, practically making the mob useless.
