In my world, I updated an existing village. The villagers are constantly spawning iron golems. There are more iron golems than any other entity now.
I suggest a despawn timer to naturally spawning iron golems. Something like 3-5 minutes after they spawn, they despawn without dropping loot. This allows time for the golems to defend the villagers, time for iron farms to kill the golem, and ensures that the number of iron golems doesn't increase indefinitely. With the new Warden mob already implementing a sort of "idle despawn timer", it should be relatively easy to apply the same logic to iron golems.
This change would not affect player crafted golems, name-tagged golems, golems on leads, inside of "vehicles", etc.
