I've always loved stag beetles, and thought I'd share some ideas I came up with from research I did for a new mob that also could use some awareness, being endangered in much of Europe (yes, including Sweden).
- Stag beetles have more health than bees thanks to their tough shell, and are quite large.
- They have no drops when killed, but being an arthropod take more damage from Bane of Arthropods.
- They scuttle and fly around forests, and are neutral. If attacked, they pinch once and then flee.
- To keep in line with new animals having their own unique mechanics, they are the only mob that is sexually dimorphic. Males have long jaws, while females do not. Only a male and a female can breed, and trying to breed two males causes a harmless 'fight'.
- They can be bred with apples or melon slices. The female will then find a log that has either been placed by a player or are, in Bedrock, fallen trees, and lay eggs in them, converting them to Grubbed Wood, which appears slightly decayed and full of larvae.
- Each time the Grubbed Wood advances a stage, string will drop, and when it finally hatches, it breaks and a few fully grown adults emerge, a new item called a Pupal Case has a chance to drop, which is used to brew a Potion of Instincts.
- Potion of Instincts gives the Alert affect, which causes any mobs that are hostile to be highlighted. This also applies to neutral mobs that are currently acting hostile, like spiders in the dark.
So yeah, that's my idea for stag beetles. Thanks for reading. :)
